People started to milk Ghost in the Shell franchise, huh?

Oh, that's what it is...

K... And nope. Animation must stay animation, because when you throw live-actors in it - it looks very silly, out of place and just cheesy.

So.... AoT then?

Not really... I just dislike live-action movies in general. Animated characters visually look more alive and... obvious? It's easier for me to understand their facial expressions.

Like that "CARL!" meme. Is he sad? Is he mad? Is he both? No idea.

Well there are exceptions to the rule, Rurouni Kenshin for example, has an exceptionally well done live action version (3 movies in fact), but that's done by a Japanese company. Western companies doing live action adaptations of Japanese animations / manga stuff... usually don't end well.

One of the exceptions I can think of is Looper, which is essentially a mash-up of Domu and Akira.

And to be fair, Japan tends to mess up their own IPs pretty often as well. -looks at the Attack on Titan live-action movie-

I have a little faith in this. a little. unlike the Aot franchise , GITs can be shifted to the west  and keep its core. What annoyed me the most in the Aot movies wasn't the bad CGI or the wodden acting ( it was horrendous). The practical effects were good and the colossal looked spot on. No what ruined it was the complete destruction of the characters we knew. Only Hanji was well done. Levi was replaced by some dude who's a prick , Mikasa was weak AF , Armin was ok but wasn't as improtant. Colossal titan isn't the person who it's supposed to be , same for armored. Eren is crazy because they change his revenge story. THey added a love triangle with the levi clone , and on top of that .some single mom who wanted Eren [yes i'm not joking]. Jean is usless.

Well you get it. The setting changes fine , but mess up the characters  and the movie will be bad no matter what.

Johannson being here = big budget. At least we can be sure it won't look terrible like Evolution *retches*

Edge of tomorrow was based off a manga and did pretty good. Let's wait and see. GITS's story can still be compelling even if the setting changes a bit.

By all means, I want to be proven wrong in my early assumptions and criticisms. Regardless, in terms of casting I'm curious why they didn't cast someone that can both act and look the part of Motoko Kusanagi rather than just potentially act it. Rinko Kikuchi off the top of my head would have been one of my personal top choices.

Still, whatever happens, if the movie doesn't have any musical nods to Origa, then I won't be giving it the time of day. It sounds harsh, but Origa was a very popular part of why the Ghost in the Shell anime is loved so much. It'd be treason not to include her stuff in there somewhere.
