Mag Prime Disscussion

I recently got my friend into Warframe, and he just got his first prime warframe. He chose Mag to begin with and decided to build Mag Prime because he liked how powerful the original Mag was. He was still kind of new to the game and didn't think to check the wiki on information about Mag Prime. When Mag Prime was finished, he was pretty disappointed about how it compared to the original Mag. Out-of-the-box, the only things that are better about Mag Prime is the fact that Mag Prime has better shields and 3 polarity slots. I wanted to know some of your thoughts on Mag Prime. How does she compare to the original Mag? How does she compare to other Primes?

Right.. it's just a shinier version of the existing frame. If you already had Mag, especially with forma, there isn't a massive benefit to using the Prime version. Primes only consist of an extra polarity, a minor stat difference, and more recently, a minor passive (i.e. Valkyr Prime's knockdown recovery).

there really is no game breaking differences between any prime and their non prime variant. new shiny baubles, minor stat increases, an extra polarity slot or 2 and some have new visual effects to an ability or two (Vaubans Bastille for example).

but fashioon frame is the true endgame haha. gotta look sleek while mowing down enemies.

 

on topic - Mag compared to Mag P, there are minor differences, more hp and an extra V polarity. both variants are pretty fun to play when you have the mods to do so though.

Mag Prime is from a time where there weren't even stat boosts on primes, she got her shield boost not even a year ago.

Stat boosts are in general kinda random, there are many unmotivated small buffs here and there, but then there are ungodly powerbuffs like Volt Prime (from smallest energy pool of the standard to the largest pool in the game on the Prime) or Ash Prime with its high sprint speed and armor buff.

Primes are, as a general rule, objectively better than the normal version. Even if you ignore all other stats, they all regen energy in the Void when standing near one of the Orb Traps. 

This alone makes them significantly better, as they don't need to rely on enemies, crates, and/or consumables to provide them with energy. 

Additionally, they usually have extra/different polarities, allowing for easier and different builds, as you don't need to spend as much Forma on them. 

 

As for the gold on them, all normal skins work on Primes. They may sit a bit strangely as the skin is a different shape than the Prime, but all skins, Deluxe in particular, will cover most if not all of the gold on the Warframe.

Normal Valkyr also has faster knockdown recovery. It's not a passive added to the prime-frame. She got it when all the other passives got added, like Oberons animal friendliness.

Deluxe skins swap out the entire model for a separate model. Nothing from the original model is retained.

All other skins will apply only to parts of the Prime Warframe's model that are shared in common between the normal and Prime models. Parts of the Prime model that are added on top of the normal model are left alone and will still be visible.

She's actually had that passive since release.

Don't forget about that random shield buff as well for ash prime

As mentioned Mag Prime is slightly better then Mag, has more polarities requiring less forma to maximize and is SHINY!!!

It is difficult to compare frames, Mag is supposed to be built around Magnetize which provides cover, CC and damage Amp. With the right weapon set up, it is a room cleaner up till really high levels.

As for anything is this game, people will say it sucks or that it is the best thing ever. You will have to understand how Mag fits into your playstyle and if you like it, Mag has definetely potential to be a great frame.
