TheResult Posted November 9, 2018 Share Posted November 9, 2018 Looking at the patch notes; using the Ostron mining tool means you won't be able to find gems when mining in Fortuna, and using the Ostron fishing spear means you'll damage the fish when you use it in Fortuna (which I assume means fewer rewards/standing.) Kedolan Posted November 10, 2018 Share Posted November 10, 2018 The Ostrum mining tools still allow you to get gems, you just can't get the best gems (kind of like how you needed the advanced cutter to get the last 2 gems in Cetus) without getting the new laser. The tool grind is much easier this time around: there's only 1 mining tool, and 2 fishing spears, and the 2nd spear just stuns other nearby fish when you catch one (instead of spooking them I assume), so you can get the new tools almost as soon as you finish the intro quest.
