Mark Mods or Resources (?)

Everything that I Know concerning this matter:

Spoiler

This Video was Live Streamed

to try to easily address (hopefully) everything,

concerning the “Act” (or in generic terms the ‘challenge’),

and the perplexities which it seems like it should not create,

but none-the-less does.

It did for me.

I took a quick time-out to log in,

and stream a video.

Within the first 5 minutes,

everything should (again hopefully),

be adequately covered.

Warframe to SET WAYPOINT to PLACE MARKER to "MARK" or (“Marking For Dummies Like ME”)

Now the vernacular DE uses got a bit ... ‘overly casual’ ... when an "Act" required me to "MARK" Five Resources or Mods.

I thought,

“OK, so I have to do this on a Cold surface atmosphere Corpus Mission, and figure out how to un-zip the fly on my Warframe to make an ‘X’?”

But that wasn't what DE meant by "mark,” so what DO they, and/or Nora Night mean?

To 'Place [a] Marker that sets a way point ON 5 ITEMS of the type indicated,

and turns the ITEM into a MARKED ITEM in a Location.

But how, without picking them up?

Well, here's how,

in a basic play-through of a mission,

with V/DJ MagNaTight spinning the tracks,

marking the cues, and playing the cuts,

filling in for what the Nora Night announcing,

and the Nightwave ACTS DON’T COVER.

This Video was Live Streamed

I just took a quick time-out to log in,

Even NOW, questions STILL REMAIN:

IF a WAY POINT MARKER is PLACED

ON an ITEM to be MARKED,

rather than actually “MARKING” the ITEM,

WILL IT BE DISCOUNTED (not counted),

as ONE of the FIVE which are REQUIRED,

to FULFILL THE ACT?

What’s THE DIFFERENCE?

When a [way point] MARKER is PLACED [set]

ON an ITEM, the item it is PLACED [set] ON

becomes “MARKED.”

Meaning the name of the ITEM becomes visible,

(more or less) on or above the ITEM (more or less),

instead of a WAY POINT MARKER being shown.

When a [way point] MARKER

is [set] PLACED,

in THAT WAY,

a WAY POINT will NOT be DISPLAYED,

at the LOCATION of the ITEM,

but rather the NAME of the ITEM will be displayed.

UNLIKE when a WAY POINT is SET by PLACING a WAY POINT MARKER

in a LOCATION (which may be near an ITEM that can be marked),

when an ITEM is MARKED by PLACING a MARKER on it,

THERE IS NO SOUND which CONFIRMS a MARKER has been PLACED,

“MARKING” the ITEM.

RATHER the NAME of the ITEM

APPEARS on it, SILENTLY.

WHEN doing this ACT SOLO,

DOES the “MARKED” item

HAVE TO BE PICKED UP,

in order to count,

a one of the five?

(I THINK the answer is YES)

THE BOTTOM LINE (of what I learned):

To “Mark” a Mod or Resource means to

Place [“Set”] A [Waypoint] MARKER

ON a Dropped Mod or Resource Piece,

which is in the open & in a state

that is Ready to be Picked Up

without having to perform any other action.

This is done by targeting the item

with the center dot (“reticule”) of the aiming sight,

and executing the command to “Place Marker”

(SET WAYPOINT [Marker]).

Why does that seem perplexing?

It IS.

Perhaps not to EVERYONE.

But to enough players,

that “MARKING” has resurfaced as a question,

in different contexts,

within Warframe.com forums,

numerous times,

over several years.

Drawing from ONLY MY experience,

this is a sketch break-down of WHY:

MOST often,

in MOST missions,

MOST players will/do not

use, want to use, or have any reason to use,

a WAY POINT Marker at all.

WHAT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE:

WAY POINT MARKERShave been SET,

Accidentally or Unintentionally

MORE often than deliberately.

When they have been used deliberately, MOST often,

they have been PLACED to signal a LOCATION.

Even when that LOCATION has been one,

which contains a resource or mod being sought,

the WAY POINT MARKER has been SET in the PLACE,

and not ON the ITEM, much MORE Frequently.

For the fulfillment of the ACT,

does this have to be done 5 times in one mission,

or one outing onto the Plains or Vallis?

Initially it seemed to be so.

But the second time the daily ACT came around,

it presented as NOT being the case.

The Set Waypoint Marker command is reset,

after what the Waypoint Marker was placed on

has been picked up.

What is the Value/Use/Good OF being able to MARK,

and “MARKING,” items specifically?

There ARE good ways to put this to use,

but that usefulness is based on particular circumstances

of the situation.

As a very general sort of example,

often players who have not yet had a certain experience of what something which is needed to obtain, work, or interact with looks like, or where to look & how to recognize it, going into a mission with another Tenno (or even a Team),

with an additional objective of finding & identifying something (like a formation of Argon Crystals to break apart for picking up, or Vestan Moss, a Thousand Year Old Fish, or Kuria/Curio to be scanned, or a new & different looking/sounding type of resource container or similar item which is particular to the Orb Vallis), knowing how to, and doing this, can be quite helpful.

 Post Script:

(Why is the instruction so BAD?

This is not a rhetorical question,

intended to imply that players

who do not understand

what is supposed to be done

are bad, poor, inexperienced,

or lacking in some sort

of common knowledge.)

Bloodnok:

Just a moment. (Aside) Let me see now, six thousand... That means they owe him five thousand and nine years old age pension. (Aloud) Neddy. I'll tell you what. I'll change names with you.

Seagoon:

You will? Hahahaho! Thank you.

Bloodnok:

Ohohohoh! Just make your mark here.

Seagoon:

Right.

FX: Two strokes, that sound like a fountain pen on parchment or a water pick pick stream squirting on wood, etc.

Seagoon:

There!

Bloodnok:

This is impossible to do, i marked everything and it does not count it at all.

Did you try it Solo / as Host? Because that worked just fine for me.

Though I guess I mostly marked rare resources (I was in the Void so lol Control Modules everywhere), maybe try that?

Why do it so hard or bother with missions?     Just go friends only,   go out onto the 'plains',  go to known location where there are crates and things.. go into archwing  blow stuff up ,,, mark from the air.. quick fly to new spot, new irradite rock, new gronkul crate, etc - crack it open, mark it up .. done 5-10 in like 2 mins, go left outside the gates - or straight ahead to one of the smaller camps etc -

dont even need to mess with your sentinel or vacuum etc, as your in archwing you sentinel\pet is not active.

I almost always play alone, and no, it does not work anyway, the challenge is broken.

I just ran it. It’s about as close to a tutorial as could be figured without adding narration saying “I’m pressing the command [that I just bound to the D-Pad Right]” every time that I do it.

It’s not broken.

I had noted some comments very early in the “Megathread” for the Buried Debts Update, which concern, directly or indirectly different manifestations of problems which had been (and may still be) arising from conflicts which the new default key-bindings and layout have had on custom configured controllers.

In a PS4 community, one player was (apparently) mis-attributing the incapacitation of getting custom key-bindings to work [again] to an abandoning of support for remote play and the Vita.

Efforts various people have made to restore or alter custom configurations had failed and would not take in many instances (cases were varied & differed depending what had been previously bound, and further re-mapped), but the universal fix-all was already known (at least). To restore the default controller assignments, and custom map after that.

I’m just thinking that if it is coming off in such a way that it seems “broken” (i.e. if you can not get what is shown being set up and done in the first mission of this video to work in the same way), then I think the best bet would be that it’s probably controller mapping function which is not working correctly (not the tasked activity for the Act).

In which case, the “fix” to try is the restore defaults, and re-map your controls after that.

Give it a shot.

(Might have to wait a little bit after this posting to get the first mission in this stream. It’s still processing the whole thing right now).

Basically I had seen the posting just before launching the app, so made a point to look into it as directly as possible, and set up the first two missions to complete three acts (with the marking Act being the main focus to complete in the first mission).

I mark stuff with the keyboard. It was just broken, is gone anyway so whatever, never doing that "challenge" again.

The act will re-cycle. But the issues which the changes in default mapping incurred may still linger, creating situations in which players find themselves unable to assign a working key binding or button command to mark-or-set-waypoint, leading to a misinterpretation that something inherent to the task described in the Act is “broken,” rather than something having been “broken” by the update, which impedes the correct function of already assigned bindings, and/or to assigning new bindings, that requires resetting the mapping to default and re-mapping to resolve.

Ultimately there is no GOOD reason for the Act to not be easily accomplished (since it doesn’t matter where a player goes to do it, even a level 0-4 Earth Node Exterminate Mission, where a sentinel can kill everything without the player even having to pay attention to a single enemy).

There are countless GOOD reasons for making sure that key binding, controller mapping and commands are working the way they are supposed to.

Doesnt matter if you do it solo or in teams. But its easier to do it solo without all the bullets flying around.

As long as you unequip companion vacuum/fetch mod, you can go close and place marker (Default button G). Important thing is you need to break the item first

Warframe-16-1-2024-8-49-41-PM.png

As you can see in the picture, you can go this close without the companion mod.
