You can get loot boxes for free in many other games, too (incl. Overwatch). However, you have to pay to get more. The difference is that with rivens you get what you want if you decide to spend plat on it. So no RNG involved when it comes to premium currency (that you can obtain for free aswell). If blank rivens were sold for plat on the market, then yeah it would be the equivalent of a loot box. But that isnt something we have.
