 i just got cautios shot and put it on the kuva bramma and tested it in the simulacrum. why doesn't it work on the kuva brama?

It should work on the Kuva Bramma. What are you seeing that suggests it doesn’t?

Gotta remember, Cautious Shot doesn't remove self stagger, it only lessens the severity.

Like, if you take a full blast to the face, anything other than 100% reduction isn't really gonna do the trick :P

Plus there's getting hit by multiple blasts thanks to Multishot Mods (and also the cluster bomblets of Bramma as it happens),
each of those hits adds "severity" levels to a degree, so again making it harder to negate / fully avoid stagger (at least I think that's what happens).

Basically, while the Mod can help, you may be better off looking into full Status immunity sources
(be it innate abilities or e.g. adding Spellbind via Helminth), not least since the Exilus slot on Bramma
should IMO be reserved for Ammo Mutation (Crit boost from Vigilante Supplies FTW).

Agree with this. Cautious shot is a waste of a slot on weapons when cc immunity or Primed Sure Footed negates all stagger as well as give the finger to annoying crap like hook shots

Pro tip. This mod was horrible before self damage was changed into self stagger. Its role was to prevent accidental seppuku, but due to the fact it only reduced the damage by 90% and warframe damage scaling you could still commit seppuku with most explosive weapons. 

Now it is completely useless, because it is a protection from accidental self stagger that works 9 of 10 times, while blocking 1 slot on your weapon. With Primed Firestorm existing there is already big competition for mod slots in the weapon.
