Wildstar Goes Free-To-Play This Fall

Subscription based games are hopelessly outdated when you look at how many free to play games are out there, as you implied it was always going to happen. Whats the point in spending over £300 quid a year on a game when free to play games like Warframe can keep you entertained for free.

On a side not, is Wildstar any good?

Sauce for people that want it

There is a poor track record in the gaming industry, as far as the F2Play implementations of games that started out as P2Play.  I'm more interested in Wildstar from the perspective of autopsying its decisions and designs than in actually playing it.

Any subscription based game that tries to get launched in recent years have been converted to f2p, due to very outdated implementation and ppl don't want to spend 10/15 euros a month to play a game, if they can find a good f2p game or even get some cheap game on steam that is heavily discounted.

The only MMO's that can still go with subscription method are the ones that stayed long enough that players cannot stop playing due to very large investment they had ( 5-10 years + Both from time and financial standpoint ) in the veins of WoW, or EvE online etc...

As others have said, subscription-based games do still exist, but they're all basically the juggernauts of the MMO world -- World of Warcraft and EVE Online being the two big ones. Others can't even hope to compete and usually just go F2P at one point or another. It tends to be more lucrative and better for the game in the long run.

Worst kept secret. However there's also a rumor its going on steam too.

Huh. Might actually get it then.

Played it during the open beta. Good fun, quality game, great art, decent humour and active mechanics. Would have easily gone with Wildstar over Warframe if not for having just made it out of WoW.

I bet that as soon it´s free2play, servers crash.

well in a youtube video i seen they looked pretty dead. the guy who was talking in it said he found 2 players within 3 hours of playing.

that was a single server though. others could have more peeps in it.
