A Veteran's Opinion On The Sniper Changes

Despite the interesting new system that supports chaining kills and zooming, snipers are still at the sub par compared to every other weapon class in the game.

The problem is that warframe is a fast paced horde mode shooter where weapons that require too much time to aim and kill a single enemy are going to be sub-par against large number of fodder type enemies. While damage is not an issue for snipers(especially thanks to the new combo-system), the fact that they take too long to kill multiple enemies compared to all other weapon in the game are what are dragging them down.

In fact the new zoom sway (something that in my opinion, has absolutely no place in a game as fast as warframe) and the nerf to the unscoped accuracy, crippled snipers even more.

While such mechanics make snipers require more skill to use in video games where enemies are less numerous, in warframe it only hinders snipers user to the point that mowing down an enemy with full auto fire, an unscoped semi-auto or getting a bit closer to kill him them with a shotgun of vastly more favourable.

Possible solutions to make snipers more viable include:

-adding innate punch through to all sniper rifles in order to help make them more viable against the large number of enemies in the game

-explosive headshots, again to help against multiple enemies

-giving all snipers the ability to see enemies through walls ala codex scanner. This would go great if snipers were given punch through or with builds that include punch through mods.

-making snipers always able to puncture certain shields (such as the nullifier bubbles)

And please, please, consider removing the scope sway and reverting the changes to the unscopped accuracy. Warframe is absolutely unique in terms of movement and combat. Such mechanics are more fit for slower paced games where enemies are fewer.

I completely agree. Some other changes I'd like to see are increased crit chance while zoomed in (to prevent those disappointing duds) and an increase in ammo capacity, since snipers don't tend to move around the map much to pick up ammo.

Have you played Lanka? Because it currently does exactly that, increases the crit chance when you zoom in. At max zoom, the bonus is so high every hit will crit. And that thing has 525 base damage now.

Signed. Snipers are objectively worse. A weird melee combo counter style mechanic that hides the small damage buff behind it.

...And in the same rework hip-fire accuracy greatly nerfed to shameful levels and the scope sway is obnoxious. Like OP said, this game is more fast paced than most-- we aren't playing the Sniper Elite series here-- these changes don't belong in Warframe. People didn't like snipers because, why kill one guy at a time when you can bring a Tigris or Tonkor and kill 12 in a single shot? Damage hasn't been the issue with snipers-- practicality has. ...Reload Speed. Innate Punch Through. These are the things that will make snipers more practical in a fast-paced horde-mode game.

i do really like the see-through wall mechanic, maybe some sniper exclusive augments that add x-ray? i do think crit chance needs to be buffed as well (dont talk about lanka, thats just a bow with a scope on it) or maybe have a mod that adds a 100% chance to crit on headshots. IMO it's ridiculous that a grenade launcher can get to around 104% crit when maxed out but most snipers can't get above 90%.

Well, sniper rifles are design for massive dmg in single targets with precision, they re not super shotgun or handgun cannon , otherwise , snipers, bows, crossbows (  attica need love ), never ll be pop guns as a assault rifles,  this happen in all games

That's the whole issue. Warframe isn't like most other games where you can just stay away and insta gib one enemy with massive damage every now and then.

Snipers need more practicality in this game in order to keep up. No matter how much damage to a single target you do with a sniper, it falls short when you can't reliably deal with multiple targets, especially since some of those targets will be charging at you with axes/shock battons/claws.

I like the suggestions but i also think that they would make sniper type weapons the most used. Being able to see enemies through walls / floor and having punch through is something to not underestimate.

Maybe increase the speed of weapon switch from primary to secondary. So a player can quickly switch to secondary at a closer range or while moving, then get back to sniper when in a favorable situation / position to snipe.

Snipers must be made to penetrate eximus and nullifier bubbles. Those are currently the only true priority enemies, and thus should be the rightful prey of snipers, but snipers do bugger all to nullifier shields.

Overall innate punchthrough would help as well, so skilled players can get multikills.

Hipfire nerf needs to go. Hell, you can't even quickscope because your aim stays S#&$ for half a second. Taking most of a second to go from moving to firing is a non-starter in a fast paced, mobile game. The combo multipliers should be the reason to scope. Also, they should probably make the scope combos give stuff like crit, so we can actually get 100% crit with snipers. It's been a year or more. Snipers should not have a 25%+ chance to do negligible damage, even when you hit.
