I hope this week a patch will be released that fixes the worst optimization of this patch 29.8.0 and the vsync fix when enabled shows 30 fps instead of stable 60, or you should at least roll back the optimization changes to the previous state. Sorry for my english.

Star Days: Update 29.8.0

Star Days are here!

Star Days are all about the things that keep these planets spinning.

Love, Stardust. Love in all its forms.

The love of a planet for the stranger who turned their fortunes around.

That would be you, Stardust. Give love away, and it multiplies.

Visit Ticker in Fortuna to hear tales of love, and provide Debt-Bonds for affectionate items like the new Eros Wing Ephemera, Ticker Floof, and more!

*The Eros Arrow Skin available in Star Days has been modified to remove its one use Gear wheel functionality. It is now a permanent Arrow Skin attachment via the Arsenal by popular player request!

Optimizations:

  • Improved auto-vsync's handling of dropped-frames.

    • Auto-vsync works by monitoring the current average frame-rate to decide if you're currently running fast enough to hit your display's refresh-rate: if your system can't keep up we disengage vsync. The theory is people generally prefer a bit of tearing to jerky frame steps; this is absolutely critical if you're being crushed below 30FPS because the next vsync step would lock you to 20FPS. This approach works quite well in a lot of cases because on modern displays quite often the tearing isn't even visible (and if you're playing Windowed or Borderless the system will likely hide this completely).

    • The problem is that you can poison that average with a really bad over-budget frame and it will disengage vsync for a few seconds until the average settles back down again. You could see this easily if you went to your arsenal from the ESC menu, waited for a second, and then exited -- there'd be a really bad hitch and then as the camera moved back to where you were standing in your ship it would tear because vsync was disabled.

    • The new code uses a simple filter on the average frame-time calculation to ignore these bad frames (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winsorized_mean if you're curious). We're still going to optimize the causes of the dropped-frames but in the meantime this should greatly diminish the ugliness they cause.

  • Enabled systemic micro-optimizations for PC builds (using SSE3 since our minspec has required it for a long time).

  • Fixed a memory bloat that could occur when running in Dx12.

  • Eliminated hitch when loading the World State Window.

  • Made many, many optimizations to rendering on all platforms.

Changes:

  • The "Kill More Infested Than The Grineer" Cambion Drift Bounty objective will now count exactly double (50% vs 100%) as a success for the bonus objective "Double the Grineer's kill-count".

    • This also fixes losing the Bounty bonus if the Grineer get kills after you complete the objective during objective end VO. As reported here.

  • Improved the Vasca Kavat Starter Kit Market icon to better display what it contains.

  • Updated "Death March" Nightwave Act title to "Cold Steel".

Fixes:

  • Fixed an edge case in The Limbo Theorem Quest that can leave you unable to progress, putting you into an inescapable state of limbo (ar ar ar).

  • Fixed becoming trapped on the Ayatan screen when attempting to ‘Visit Maroo’ via the Ayatan screen.

  • Fixed cases of constantly failing ‘Area Control’ Bounties in the Plains of Eidolon due to required enemies being spawned on the other side of the Plains.

  • Fixed certain cases where Unairu's Void Shadow can become permanent.

  • Fixed the Martyr Symbiosis Vulpaphyla Mod Health restore never being removed and thus stacking perpetually, rendering you immortal.

    • The logic behind Martyr Symbiosis is for the Vulpaphyla to sacrifice itself to heal you after falling below X% Health.

  • Fixed the Martyr Symbiosis Mod description claiming incorrect Warframe Health %. It now indicates 10% per rank instead of 5% per rank it initially claimed.

  • Fixed Martyr Symbiosis Mod Health link FX showing when stored Health of the Vulpaphyla is at its max of 40%.

  • Fixed Bonewidow's Meathook working against Coildrives and Dropships. As reported here.

  • Fixed Grineer Manic never succeeding at tackling a player if its target had a Melee weapon equipped for the mission. Previously the Manic would just get stunned 100% of the time.

  • Fixed Moa Blitz Eximus playing humanoid animations when performing their blast ability, which looked pretty gross. They now will use a stomp!

  • Fixed Fire Rate curse from a Heavy Weapon Riven affecting your equipped Primary Bow.

  • Fixed the Frostfall Ephemera FX persisting while on the Orbiter, even after being unequipped or having switched Warframes.

  • Fixed regular Shield Lancers' bodies looking like their Tusk variants.

  • Fixed dirt disappearing on Gral's Kubrodon Floof when viewed at specific angles in the diorama.

  • Fixed Nightwave diorama music not stopping when exiting a Glassmaker diorama before it completes.

  • Fixed for wrong Nightwave voiceover playing when viewing Episode 4 & 5 Glassmaker dioramas.

  • Fixed missing scroll bar in the Nightwave ‘Tune In’ screen to view all the Acts.

  • Fixed cases where Clients UI would display the Hosts localized language.

  • Fixed some Quest icons in Codex not displaying 'locked' visual distortion.

  • Fixed Deth Machine Rifle missing tracer FX.

  • More fixes towards the Teralyst spawn sound being too loud.

  • Fixed Gral’s Thumper Floof having a [PH] name and description in the Nightwave Cred Offerings.

  • Fixed a harmless script error when Venari respawns in the Simulacrum.

  • Fixed a script error when casting Excalibur’s Slash Dash.

What do you guys think about adding tonfas for zaws in Cetus? (and another types of melee)

Honestly, if nobody hyped this as being an "event" people would not be as dissapointed. Compared to other years where we just got a temporary auxilary attachement or something and maybe a couple decorations, this is a slight improvement.

That said, to my understanding, an "event" is something that involves actually doing something unique, like Plague Star or Dog Days. Not a just a store with a couple of unique items that use existing currency.

I wish we got a unique mission with this event. Something fun and thematic. That's all.

So, let me ask you to square the circle here.  What exactly did we get last year for the Valentines holiday, and what did we get for the Halloween holiday?

For the former we got the ability to buy a couple of things in the market, and the skins were a temporary equip.  Use them, in one mission, then they were gone.  Nothing unique and nothing special.

For the later, we got an event with a shop.  You spent mother tokens, an item you still need in-game to farm things on Deimos with any substantive speed.  Yes, exactly like what you can do with debt bonds....only mother tokens are a guaranteed drop.  Debt bonds are guaranteed with the Profit Taker, but otherwise are a crap shoot as to what you're going to get.

I ask these questions, because even Plague Star was a recycling of stuff.  It was a reuse of Lephantis, with a 4 part mission that was find toxin, complete mobile defense, take to drone for escort, and defeat boss.  All of this stuff already happened on PoE.  The only unique bit was that it was structured, and you could spike the difficulty with consumables.

On the other hand, the reason people seemed to like Plague Star was that the grind was rewarded.  Beyond the simplistic cosmetics, you could get built formas.  Yep, infested zaws and other stuff was nice, but you wanted to keep grinding so that you could bank a few dozen forma and not have to wait 24 hours to have them built.  My problem personally is that Naberus and Star Days are events without a reason to do them once you've gotten the unique cosmetics.  As such, they're a slight expenditure of resources I'm already drowning in (because bad RNG has required I accumulate a huge stack of them).

TL;DR

Is this an issue of not being an event, or not being worth repeating indefinitely?  It seems like you've forgotten Naberus used Mother tokens.....so this is now a 2 item trend of events reusing existing resources.  I personally find more frustration in the rewards being mediocre, and having no reason to engage with this because there's nothing worth seeking out in large quantity.

So about the new Lunar New Year bundels, in the Luminous Brilliance Bundle it says that there is a Rifle Riven Mod included, but upon unveiling it turned out to be a Catchmoon riven, thus being a kitgun riven all along. I don't know maybe that should be fixed sometime, since it's kinda misleading. Oh and on the official page on warframe.com about the "holiday" thing it also says it's a rifle riven.

I honestly think you make a pretty good argument and agree with what you say. I'm just making the statement that I want something unique TO DO for an event. I actually like the Halloween event of 2019 - it was pretty challenging.

I will ammend my statement to say that they should just put some evergreen rewards in the store (such as forma) and folks will be happy. I would have been pretty happy if I could purchase toroids from this store since I need them for other things and they are kind of a pain to get.

I hope bleeding body ephemera makes an appearance at some point.

So, to summarize I will suggest that events should:

1. Have some unique activity

2. Have evergreen rewards- or at least make it easier to obtain more difficult items for a short time.

Let me be clear, this was not intended as criticism.  Squaring the circle, in my lexicon, is providing enough qualification to your statements in order to make them make sense.  I generally ask for this not because there is disagreement, but because there are multiple ways to make sense of your statement.

My intention was to offer some framing, and ask how you got to the point you did.  I agree that the recent events were less than ideal, but Star Days is not unique.  Hopefully by feeding back this disappointment, and being precise in our requests, DE can make decent changes.

I may disagree that each new event needs a new resource grind personally (looking at you tremba essence).  At the same time, we definitely can agree that each event should have a reason to make grind acceptable.

To clarify, vsync broke after patch 29.8.0, only on Directx 12, on Directx 11 vsync works stably at 60 fps, advice don't play on Directx 12 this is the worst API and it's broken, the beta justifies it so far.

P.S. I hope someday to see in this game, the implementation of the Vulkan api, this API is better.
