Infestation Should Be Scarier.

Thats a bit extreme Lovecraft. They will not be scary to everyone no matter what they make. Also I agree with the invisble thing. We need an infested bloodhound or something to find invisible players. Make it slow moving to balance it however.

It's not scary when you can turn invisible and run away at will. To make the infestation scary, DE would have to completely rebuild the game from the ground up.

or they could add "specialist" infested sorta like the grineer regulator but it disturbs powers so their duration is shorter or something.

also i just noticed that your name is lovecraft so i guess it wont be much that scares you then all things considered :p

The best memory I have of the infested is when I completed the sabotage mission and was told to extract (note the following story has only occured once and as much as I have tried I cannot make it happen again)

After being told to extract obviously I was in no rush Infested are a snooze fest compared to high lvl corpus. So Im wandering around and found a vent system with some loot I traveled through and got my loot at one of those fall through vents.

Next thing I heard was a buch of roaring and scraping noises coming from the vent to my right where the fan blade was twitching.  I look over and my friend drops in with me screaming his head off that he needs ammo. I asked him what his problem was and he pops an ammo restore and shoots the broken fan blade.

Next thing I know there are HUNDREDS of infested flooding so tight in the fan opening that they are POURING out and I mean cover the screen POURING so much so that the entire room was filled with them and we couldnt even move. After at least 5-8 minutes of solid panic the bodies started piling up and the stream died down.

Being trapped in a tiny room with infested falling through the ceiling and wall was the funnest thing thats happened so far.

Gag. PLEASE none of these ideas. Darker ships just make it annoying to see. They're already dark enough, try running with a bow.

I think the old ancients were creepier than the current ones, the whole flopping body thing was rather disturbing, and made them hard to kill(very tough to headshot). The little cthulu wannabes are less scary and more annoying. Adding more unnatural movements would increase the creep factor.

For an actual difficulty change, they could have units with traction. Imagine if infested could move along any surface of a ship--wall, floor, ceiling, rails, and could drop down from above. There would be nowhere safe, nowhere sound, and just when you think you're done clearing a hallway, more could leap from the ceiling behind you.

I'm not sure I really WANT that, but it'd be interesting.

One thing that WOULD be fun is if they played the mario ghost game. When your flashlight is shining towards them, or gunfire is blazing, they scatter for cover. As soon as your back is turned, THEY CHARGE!

Unless you kept enemy radar on you at all times, you'd never really know if you'd killed them all, or just scared them into hiding, and by the time you were certain, ones that had circled around behind you would be in position to attack.

Yes and No.

While i'm all for it, i wouldn't want DE Dead Space-ing the game up, that would drive players who aren't fans of that genre away from the game. Which would be sad since only a portion of it is infested.

UNLESS if they made infested missions not part of the main solar system missions (eg. needing keys to Orokin Derelict/Abandoned Grineer Mines), with like jacked up credit rewards.

Dead Space-ing the infested would be awesome tho, make them come out of vents, make them crawl and run on walls, make their appearance WAY more scarier in general, much more deformed, give them their own home planet of sorts or some colony where blood drips from the walls, bodies of dead tenno are everywhere.

Also a TOTAL revamp of all the infested units, there's nothing scary about them now, besides the ancients, they feel as if they're in their spot now, slow, big, hulking masses of twisted flesh.

Adding new units could add to the scare factor too, some sort of swarm-ish units maybe, like something really small, fast, with low HP,etc

They should also be the only faction with destroyable body parts, blow off it's leg, they'll crawl, blow off their arms, they'll try and bite, maybe if they add some multi-tentacle infested of sorts we could blow off it's tentacles and it will have reduced damage capabilities.

Also the atmosphere in general, first off all fix the flashlights so they actually point towards where your gun is,or maybe since we have high tech suits, they could fit a small chamber/hole where light comes from somewhere on their head. Also darken the place up,add some dark-red lights instead of the nice and bright coloured blue/yellow-ish stuff we see on grineer and corpus ships in general...as if they issued a red alert right before the infested struck.

doesn't matter how 'scary' you make anything, they are no longer scary after killing hundreds of them. It would be the same if you attempted to play Dead Space numerous times; enemies still look the same and you already know what to expect. It's not psychologically possible to make enemies more scary after a certain point.

You're probably one of those guys that played Dead Space the first time and when something jumped out of a vent you were like "meh". But if you're like me and have to stop every 1 meter to walk and check if something's behind you...then it's still scary >_>

They use to be freaky when I just started but your right.

This.

I felt this too on my first encounter, ancients were so creepy.

But alot of the fear came from how challenging they were with low-level items with minimal to no modding.

Late game when you're fully geared out in some decent weapons/frame/mods the dificulty is a joke.

I think infested missions should build on a background environment.... like some other members have mentioned - relying on your flashlight because the lights are dimmed. Perhaps eerie music or occasional bloodcurdling screams. Something that would take some time but maybe a mission like with darvo and the other guy (I don't remember)  but a corpus/grineer scientist makes us infiltrate a lab on a ship and grab some samples but on the ship we see half infected grineer/corpus. We can hear the plead for help or crying in pain. Or simply a mission where we see a grineer convert into an infested right before our eyes like in Dead Space 2.

Now a transformation of grineer or corpus on scene? Might be scary, provided they were stronger than before (because they sort of aren't).

More like one of those people who played Dead Space 2 and saw the same mechanics and enemies. I'm not saying it wasn't scary the first time, but everything is predictable in linear games like that, and seeing the same enemies makes them not scary no matter what game.

*crosses fingers in hopes that it's actually something big like a revamp of infested + atmosphere and not just some crappy new unit*

I don't want you to get your hopes up, so I'll say that it's nothing like that.  But it is a welcome addition to a particular form of Infested enemy.

I'd go for moments where the lights are going out at your current tile and suddenly the infested come on over and crawl up the walls with loud screams after a short moment of silence and the tile gets on lockdown. That'll creep me out a little.

Then again, I think too much of Dead Space here.

Dead Space 2 was still scary...what wasn't scary was Dead Space 3... the whole atmosphere didn't really give out a scary enough vibe...I mean really, enemies poping out of snow? -_- The only scary part was the one where you go inside that huge creature with the elevator.

Nope, that sounds great :o but instead of a tile, the whole map loses electricity so all the lights go out, also when you're near a window in a ship there should be SOME light coming from the outside...so lucky you,if not, then your flashlight is your best bet.

I like it how everyone in the council made a blood pact of sorts with the devil to not tell anyone about anything or face death if the do so. T_T Still I hope it's something that will make them creepier.

hmm now that i think about it what might be nice for the infested would be if first all lights would be off.

Glowing eyes on normal infested that you can see in the dark.

A majority of them should be "asleep" and hidden

They wake up from gunfire and running close to them.

If you are spotted by the infested they will stalk you slowly getting closer and if you get caught unaware you get knocked over afterwards it wont happen again unless another one stalks you.

the ship is normally completely silent.

when you disturb the infested all hell breaks loose with the sound of footsteps/whatever infested has for feet steps and of course loads of roaring infested.

also at least the chargers should be pretty fast.

also in none def and extermination missions they should for the most just keep on coming like a flood of infested.

hope i made sense

+1

Awesome! Little things like this would be a major improvement to the Infested faction.
