(Spoiler): Was There A Third Tier Of Original Progenitors?

Speculation for comment:

1. Primes

One thing about primes that has always bugged me: While beautiful and intimidating and representative of Orokin power, the aesthetic trappings seem as much a mark of ownership and control as they do power and prestige.

Certainly they were a more resource-intensive, elite product of the Orokin Military machine.

2. Standard issue Warframes

Whether products of a technological dark age following the collapse of the Orokin Empire, standard-issue mass-produced frames for the bulk of the Orokin Army, or some combination of both, these frames somehow seem more representative of our Tenno selves.

3. THE ORIGINALS

In the beginning, the Tenno-super weapon known as THE PROGENITORS were forged. Tenno could not physically control their powers and a body never meant to house such energy quickly degraded. The most powerful Tenno were able to connect to Warframes and, through imagination and shear force of will, bind and mold them in symbiosis, a new body, a lethal and artistic expression of power, artistic beauty, and control. As these Tenno grew to adulthood, their powers continued to magnify through their second skins.

They excelled in combat against even the greatest of Sentients.

Their one great weakness was their limited numbers and direct exposure to lethal combat.

Despite their effectiveness, they were deemed too valuable for field combat.

With the advent of transference, the founding of the schools of training, and the developments in focus technology, Tenno in cryostasis, too weak to control their powers while awake, were now formidable weapons safely removed from the battlefield.

Orokin military scientists set to the task of weaponized mass production of initial copies known as Primes and then standard-issue, mass-produced versions to swell the ranks of their armies.

One can only imagine what became of THE ORIGINALS. The Orokin must have greatly feared them...

go look at the codex entries for ember prime, rhino prime, excalibur, and mag prime, then play the second dream quest. Then rethink this entire thread.

1) the Tenno didn't make their own Warframes

2) the Tenno never grew to adulthood

Yes, Primes are the "originals" as compared to the "standard issue" frames we currently have. But... it has been made clear that the Orokin had no flippin idea how "Void Magic" worked, so why in the world you would think the original original frame was created by the Orokin with all of that bling does not make much sense.

So my head cannon is... the "Proginitor" came into existence... somehow, tbh, this has been and still is the greatest mystery in Warframe. We knew there was some kind of remote controlled thing going on long before second dream, but we are still mostly clueless about the original original Warframes. Then the Orokin made suits based off of these "Proginators", these are the ORIGINAL Warframes as we seem them today, a remote body controlled by a Void enhanced human (operator). These suits, as they were made by the Orokin, were all decked out in shiny goldness. Then as the Tenno became more numerous the Tenno began to create Warframes themselves (still during the Orokin era) based off of the Golden frames created by the Orokin. This explains how we are "awoken" in a "vanilla" Warframe rather than a Prime.

I actually want DE to keep this a secret for awhile longer. I hope we start getting fed tidbits about the original Warframes in ways similar to how we were hinted about the second dream for at least six months, if not a year. Build up some more "current" story (Corpus/Grineer/Infested) before we get back to the nitty gritty.

My take is that the early trials of transference were primitive and were carried out on living orokin warriors who had proven themselves in Battle but had been wounded and modified too many times to put back into service. The orokin created a machine to allow the tenno to essentially ride these warriors into battle. Their relationship was two minds in one body. These teams became legendary, the personality of the host colored the tenno's power into the abilities we know. Eventually these heroes would meet an untimely end, if they had proven themselves to be useful then they were reproduced as warframe.

I bet it's something like that.

You are right...The Tenno WE PLAY AS CURRENTLY never grew into adulthood.

Warframes are artistic and expressive creations...Orokin "built" things, but there is the very real possibility that the GENESIS of the Tenno-warframe is a creation that the Orokin copied with their typical, oppressive stamp of approval. The Orokin certainly seem to have their own version of "truth" at times.

The Warframes themselves are the next great mystery reveal...those and Umbra.

I did play the second dream.

DO YOU REALLY THINK THE STORYLINE HAS NO MORE TWISTS AND SURPRISE REVEALS?

What "typical, oppressive stamp of approval" are you talking about? Seems like you just made that up out of thin air. Nothing implies that the Warframes were originally created by the Tenno. Nothing ever suggests that. Nothing even suggests that the warframes are "artistic and expressive" creations. You're literally just making all of this up. It's one thing to say that you'd like this to be the case. It's another to pretend like this fantasy has some basis in lore. It doesn't.

Is anyone ever going to provide a source for "Primes were the first" because it doesn't make sense at all. Improved technology doesn't normally come first at all.

The codex entry for Excalibur Prime said "Excalibur was the first" not "Excalibur Prime was the first" and just because it is his entry, doesn't mean they were referring to the prime variant. Why? Because i could use that logic then say the beast that was killing and eating people was Rhino Prime as he looks today.

There is also the Odonata Prime description to take into account; "This enhanced version of the first Archwing prototype takes the design to it's theoretical limits". This text explicitly states that the normal variant came first and got upgraded. It likely the same for the Warframes as well.

Let us not forget how douchy the Orokin were as well and the situation they were in. You think they'd build something fancy with their ornate gold and whites for someone they wanted to destroy first? No, they probably built the frames as quickly as possible without using the absolute best resources. It would be smart to keep it from being a waste in case the Tenno + Warframe strategy was a complete flop. I'm betting that once they saw how effective the Tenno were in combat, the Orokin decided they earned the right to don the empire's best.
