How Does Lore Progress?

Question

Heyoo, beginner with beginner question.

I forget specifically where, but I believe that both on the forums and on the Wiki, I've seen that some things have changed "as a result of _____" or "after the events of ______"

So does the lore sometimes progress as a result of event missions that us players pass/fail, or does DE sometimes just change stuff as they see fit?

Just curious if as a comunity we shape the future of the game.

(Mildly off topic, but I'm also really curious about the Infected spores in the back of the ship.)

You mostly get the lore from doing the quests, a little bit from some tactical alerts that can no longer be played, but the lore is consistent but not very specific, so there are many things that remain to the interpretation of the players, and when new pieces come you have to readjust some or many of your previous notions. There has been a couple of missions where choice was given to the players, so in some manners we shape parts of the game.

The spores are likely hinting at what is to come, but we still don't know.

Lore...? Progression...? ...w-what?

The lore is all over the place but once you start pulling it out of the corners, you can easily piece together general knowledge about anything. Events usually have lore of some significance related to them. Half the time we get an event where we as a community choose between two options. Whichever has more support at the end of the timer wins. So we do get to shape the lore a but so far it doesn't seem to have a huge impact on the game (yet). Its more for us to have fun with.

The wiki has a lot of good information on it. Just stay away from anything to do with Dark Sector because its not canon to Warframe. Technoctye is a part of the game but we don't know how much and what it actually does. Any talk about it is pure speculation and theory.

Most of your problems would be answered when DE release starchart 3.0. If your new player who hasn't killed all the bosses. They would taunt everytime you progress threw their missions. But most of the important lore is behind quests and sometimes events (which would return some what in U19)

Tactical alerts and other transient events used to be very lore heavy and involved some player choice (which ultimately had no real bearing on the direction of the game. At most we lost a few empty relays) but DE has been shifting the bulk of the storytelling into quests. Lore in general is revealed to us very slowly and when new frames/game mechanics/characters or frames are introduced into the game (ex. Simaris, Clem,Natah, Second Dream, Mirage, Inaros).

The spores in your ship are very likely going to be tied into us getting kavats as they are somehow able to nom on infested tissue without becoming infested.

Lore progression...drop by drop, in pharmaceutical homeophatic doses, at a turtle-like pace...That's it.

No plans for the foreseeable future to add more synthesis tales per example. Nice, isn't it?

It was said in a devstream that 2016 is the year of world building in Warframe... We shall see...

Flames and rant aside, lore in this game is not compiled, you have to hunt the pieces and build the bigger picture yourself with the little available. About this feature, nothing to complain here.

Oh, part of the lore acquisition involves RNG (Why does that tile with the missing Kuria never show up? Damn...)

A bit of everything really. DE just slips this stuff in wherever they want.

We've seen codex entries. We've seen NPC dialog. We've seen story missions. We've seen collection quests with associated lore explanations from NPC or the codex. We've seen exploration/collection with poems, of all things. We've had events which progress and result in lore explanations. Oh, and most recently, lore oriented trailers (which was way cool and rather unexpected).

Really, it's up to you as the player to piece all of this stuff together. DE wants you to think a bit and work for it.

One last little detail:

For lore that's given to you in quests (such as Patient Zero) the events don't canonically happen until you personally do the quest.

For lore that's given to the players as part of limited-time events (such as Shadow Debt) the events are considered to have taken place in the past

You'll notice how contradictory that is (Shadow Debt having happened in the past despite hypothetical player not having finished Patient Zero). The official answer is "don't think too hard about it".
