A Thank You Note To The Community

Recently I started playing another game, Payday 2, and I realized something that I've never realized before.

In almost every single other game that I've played before, new players are almost demonized. It's so hard to learn the ropes of a new games, because most of the veteran players will drop out of a lobby if they see that someone who's just starting out is in it, which leads to the new players getting frustrated and then potentially they stop playing. And we've all been guilty of doing it.

However, in Warframe, new players are almost treated with more respect than veteran players. I love teaching people who just downloaded the game how to do certain things, what certain things mean, etc. There was one time when a veteran player was constantly criticizing a new player, and the rest of the people on my team refused to revive him when he went down, which led to him rage-quitting. I admit, there are times when playing with someone who's new can be less than ideal, but for the most part it's not really an issue.

Also, I love the community's support for improving the new player experience. In most other games, all people are concerned about is raising the level cap and stuff like that, nothing that would help new players at all.

So, thank you, Warframe community, for being the best player base out there.

That is not a problem. The problem is that new players rush too fast to the high-level content with bad gear. Back when I started, I dropped out when I saw a veteran player because they stole all my kills.

I was mostly talking about other games in that sentence.

I think another reason that Warframe's new players are more welcomed is because you all share experience, provided you're close enough in proximity.

what? he is talking about payday 2 where veteran players leave immediately if they are not in a dream squad. And i can confirm that.
But thats also the fault of the game, they made it so hard that you need a good team else you get 0 reward.

I'm not so sure I'd divide it at newbies and veterans. You have new people, sure, but then you have the veterans who are helpful and the ones who can't help but comment on the state of the game with one or more particular aspects they absolutely despise.

I will agree however, that it is a much nicer community than most I've been a part of!

I actually play through lower missions for sort of this reason. I like helping players and showing them the ropes (especially parkour lessons, how to wallrun like a champ, etc). I also go with all sorts of late game stuff and try to reinforce that as long as they stick with it, they too will be able to get crazy cool gear.

Though, our community has all sorts of types... including some not-so-nice players. I do however feel as though it's the job of those with experience in the game to help the new players adjust.

Sorry to burst your bubble but when people could see each others conclave rating; everything you thank us for not doing is what did happen.

I still refuse to play in a open lobby :P

The only times I play in an open lobby is for Mercury defense and survival, since that's where a nice collection of players tend to gather. It can either be a learning match for new players, or a high-xp match for more experienced players.

I was in a match playing as Broberon with three other new players. They were so entranced by Reckoning and Hallowed Ground (it's so amazing getting comments from new players saying "oh my god, that ability is awesome", it reminds me why I fell in love with this game in the first place).

Anyway, we ended up staying long enough for all the Oberon parts to be dropped in a single match. They were so freakin' excited, it was great to see.

Conclave Rating means sh*%. I could equip 1 decent weapon and 2 freshly polarized gear and my rating would be lower than usual. Conclave rating ≠ skill.

Yeah Payday has a somewhat toxic community but its still a good game, just get some friends for missions and fun ahead.

Compared to some other types of games the Warframe community is  rather nice or at least neutral (region(dad) chat being the worst thing at times)

indeed.

But the game should do some of it.

Teaching someone how to build /craft mod stuff is really long and boring for both of us -_-

I find adjusting for lower rank players kind of respectuous to them. Since it happens more than normal in events, I try to let them take the initiative (if reasonable) then back them up instead of the other way around. That way, they get to gauge the difficulty of the mission and their own efficiency while having a backup that can swoop in if they get over their head and save them before they fall (and if they fall, bring them back up).

Hell, one mission had me and a clanmate pretty much escorting a Rank 1 through one of the last event's missions. We always had one of us with him so that if he got over his head, he'd have either myself or my buddy as backup.

Runs went surprisingly well as we let him look and find the nodes to break them and take on enemies as needed and interveined only if the Infested began to swarm him. I actually find it fun to teach new players about the game, telling them they're bound to hit a wall at some point past Earth until they manage to craft their first warframe so that they don't just give up then.

Kind of letting them know "We've been there ourselves before but if you keep at it, you can go beyond what you have now once you clear that step"

The Warframe community is very nice compared to other free to plays (Planetside 2, FireFall etc.) Good job guys. Sometimes even better than the storebought games, we are looking at YOU CoD!

We should assure the new players that even though there is a toxic part of the community that we, the 99% will do our best to make sure they have a great experience for a great game.

I would like to tell you a little story.

During the Breeding Grounds missions I ran into a Mastery Rank 2. He said it was his first week playing Warframe. Myself being a Mastery Rank 11 and playing sinced closed beta thought this was awesome. I love seeing new players. However he did not have the gear to combat the high level infested of the Breeding Grounds. We got through all 3 hives with out a hitch or kink. After we destroyed the hives and where all the infested go bananas the new player started to die. So I did my best to help him and keep him going without having him waste a revive. The two other players in the lobby ran ahead (Rhino Primes :/ but not all rhino p ppl are bad.). They kept yelling at me "Leave him and Extract!" I didn't and I got the new player to the exit without him wasting one revive. I used all my revives keeping him alive, and to this day I am proud of it.

Rock on Warframe community!

This is what we should all be doing. The main reason people get upset is because "I don't want to lose this match".

Newsflash: This is Warframe. The game of a million matches. One loss REALLY won't matter.

They just need to think of a time when they needed help and nobody would give it, and then imagine how much their perspective would have changed if just one person ran back to revive them or help them.

When I first started this game, I was in a survival on mercury with a guy playing rhino prime, and about 5 minutes in an oberon helmet dropped. I asked him what it was and he said it was one of three parts for oberon, and that he would stay until the other two dropped. We ended up staying 45 minutes and I got all the parts for oberon, a frame I still play to this day. When I asked him why he did it, he said he was just making the community better. Fast forward 300 hours and I often find myself throwing on low leveled gear and helping out on the first three planets.

Compared to pretty much every other game I've played, warframe's community is awesome.
