Used to be to take a few items out and put new ones in rotation until the new Starchart and Void system since just adding more would make it harder and more frustrating to get what you want. Now, it's about money.

Still is true to a certain level. Having all of the Prime's available would mean having a ton more relics available. Then you run into the drop table dilution issue again with the Old Void but now with the Relics. Of course, money plays a part. At least they provide people who don't pay a way to get them still save for the accessories.

Imagine if they did NOT vault old primes.  This is a simplified and abstracted example, but:

  • There's 10 prime parts in circulation.  Your chances of getting any one of those parts, which you need, is 1 in 10.  You get all the parts and build your primes, you have all the things, you are happy.
  • DE releases another 10 prime parts.  There's 20 parts in the pool.  Your chances of getting any individual part that you need is 1 in 20.  It takes you twice as long to get all the prime things but eventually you are done.
  • DE releases another 10 prime parts. There's 30 parts in the pool. Your chances of getting any individual part that you need is 1 in 30...

Etc.

Vaulting prime items to reduce the overall size of the reward pool means that players are getting a pool that is more focused on the things that are newest and owned by the fewest people. Is it unfair to newer players?  If you look at other F2P MMOGs they tend to have real exclusives, where if you weren't around for some one week event back in 2012 then you literally cannot own some unique weapon or unique mount or unique pet or whatever.  Warframe makes that a lot softer by allowing you to stockpile and trade these items.

So DE can make money with Prime Acess, they need it to pay bills n' stuff.

Bills for theyr villas and yachts tho at this point....like 3-4 prime access sales equal the profit of tripple A games with several years worth production cost.

Prime vaults about halve these numbers basicly. Not even taken the extra plat sales and tennogen into consideration...

Still won't patch consoles propperly or link platform tho. Cause sony/ms and "too expensive".

If this Wasnt the case, who would make and keep raglan weapons and warframes?  Primes should mostly be exclusive to those who were playing the game the time of their appearance.  Look at Excalibur.  No one but founders have Excalibur prime for a reason.  As much as it sucks that I don't have excal prime, I understand because it was released for people who were around for its release.

And I dont know about you, but I actually like seeing that everyone doesn't have the prime version of a warframe.

Step 1: Sell Prime Access "X" and put relics into the game which contain Prime Parts of Prime Access "X"

Step 2: Remove relics from the game which contain Prime Parts of Prime Access "X"

Step 3: Resell Prime Access "X"

Hint:

Look at the bold, underlined text

The purpose of this game is to get you to play as long as possible. If all frames/weapons/mods are readily available off the bat, chances are that you will get everything that there is to get (without spending large sums of plat) and then quit the game. The game wants you to play it as long as possible which is aided by gating content behind certain events or by you bypassing grind/wait time by buying plat packs (or helping populate maps by farming plat) to get enough to buy what you want from players who have what you want.

Overall, the point is to make items rare by not making them available to be earned in game (thus increasing value) and then reintroducing said content to sell as hot commodity.

probably because DE also has to pay bills and I'm sure a good portion of the money goes to the development of the game.

also the fact that certain prime weapons, parts and warframes are only accessible through trading boosts the in-game economy

...because obviously everyone had to buy one when it came out and again on resell???? Yep it makes sense. If they would keep "prime access X" for sale the whole time they would earn less because people wouldn't buy it twice that way? :)
