Hey guys,

Don't worry, this is not a weak thread in an attempt to bring our glory days back. It is a thread to improve the melee combat in warframe, specifically influenced by PvP but not limited to it.

 

So charge attacks, why do I want this? I want to be able to power up my attack in order to break somebody's defences.

 

Ever tried to melee or just shoot at somebody who is blocking? Well let me tell you it is freaking annoying.

Here is my proposal on fixing it

 

Usage and damage

Channeling is optional for extra damage and utility.

 

Another thing to note it will deliver increased damage but with a flat multiplier. So that there is a damage increase but the old charge attack beats all will not return, you would still be rewarded for your extra time taken to burst up that damage though.

The charge time is also flat to 3 seconds.

 

Mechanics

In order to break a block you need to charge your attack and if your opponent is has been blocking for a while or is not blocking at all they will be staggered backwards allowing you to attack them.

 

Now this doesn't mean that charge attacks are always the best way to go because you can counter a charge attacks by blocking (with a 0.4 second window before and a 0.1-0.2 second window after) the attack at the moment it hits, this staggers the defender for 0.75 seconds and the attacker for 1.25 seconds.

 

Again, you can also cancel your charge attack if you pause for about 0.5 seconds so you can continue your attack. This way you can fool your opponents if they are willing to release their block because you are charging.

 

 

Now, apart from times and values which are all based off the top of my head all should work fairly well.

I'd rather have quick block/shot and some other heavy weapon buff than charge attacks. One thing I always hated about them is how slow they were, they don't really feel right. 

Never used the Orthos Prime then? :P I used to Melee through tons of enemies with charge attacks in the "good ol' days" with it, as powerful as the Galatine charge attack if you don't count crits.(It did half the damage, but also half the charge time)

Still felt slow...I always used light weapons

I disagree with it not dealing increased damage, and feel that just returning it as it used to be would work just fine (though using it to break player/enemy guards is also a good idea.)

If it deals no extra damage then people won't feel inclined to use it all the time thus not making combos more useless.

Problem is that you have no way to break somebody's block. You cannot do anything to them which is very irritating.

 

Since the timings are flat it all pretty much relies on skill when fighting up close vs other opponents :/
