Critical issue requires ATTENTION

I'm creating this thread in the hope that it will catch the eagle eye of this game's management. This is a critical issue for me and many other users which has been ignored for a very long time. I kindly ask moderators to not move this thread to a bug section. There are similar threads there already. I'd like ppl to see this.

Apparently Warframe has an underlying problem which leads to game crushing and freezing for some users. This has been going on for a few years at least. There are numerous threads on different forums covering this issue. There never was a definitive answer and/or solution from support.

Here's what I'm talking about. One user created a video showing the issue. Have a look. This is from a thread below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqlHBUnKcNo&feature=youtu.be

https://forums.warframe.com/topic/791778-screen-freezes-but-the-game-continues-as-normal/

I created a few tickets in an attempt to resolve this issue with Warframe support. They are not helping. Here's their latest reply.

"We found the following some errors in your log which is the cause of your problem, and, unfortunately, those errors do not pinpoint to one problem.

There are many possible causes:

The graphic drivers are corrupt, re-install them from your PC/Laptop makers website and use Display Driver Uninstaller to clean the residue before reinstalling it.
If you have a PC and you know what you're doing, open up the case cover and check the power connections to your video device - re-seat if necessary. Also clean out (with compressed air) your power supply.
If your PC is quite old, your power supply may be on its way to the great power supply bone yard - have it checked out;
Downclock overclocked graphic card
Overheating issue
The graphic card is dying slowly, replace it
Alternatively, if you are willing to sacrifice some visual quality and special effects without having your PC checked out, you can also try to disable 64-bit mode, Dx10, and Dx11 at the launcher's settings and tune Graphics quality Preset under Display tab to Medium or LOW at in-game Options.

If you are still experiencing the issue even after doing that, please send me another EE.log.

Hopefully that helps, please feel free let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!"

None of what they say is true. I've been testing my system and it's working just fine. This is Warframe specific issue. I don't have anyhting like this in any other games I play.

Seeing that Warframe support is unwilling to fix this I tried to escalate it with Nvidia customer care. I had a long conversation with them. I've been sending them some info, trying different things. Nothing worked.

Here's my post on GeFroce forums.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1042608/geforce-drivers/display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-responding-and-has-successfully-recovered/

And here's some extracts from my conversation with Nvidia driver support.

"Hi,

Provide me with the below mentioned details.

1. Model number of the laptop?
2. Are you connecting any External Display to the laptop?
3. Please try creating a new windows user account on the laptop and check if that makes any difference

please perform the following steps to send us the "msinfo32" (system configuration) file.

a) Press "Windows Key" + "R" together and type msinfo32 then press "Ok".
b) This will bring up the “Microsoft System Information Utility”. Click on “File” and then save it.
c) Save it as (System Information File >NFO ) and not as .txt format.
d) Next attach it to this “support request” so that we can read it.

Please try the below steps and see if it helps:

Create a System Restore Point. We recommend creating System Restore Points before performing this step. For more information, read Microsoft's System Restore FAQ.
Run the game as admin.
Disable any Firewall / Antivirus apps or programs.
Check Windows compatibility with the game.
Temporarily disable UAC.
Remove applications from Windows Start up.

Please ignore if you have tried any of the above steps.

Looking forward for your update

Thank you for the update. This issue seems to be an issue with the game specifically itself, I would suggest you to contact the game developers and report this problem.

Best Regards,
NVIDIA Customer Care"

I've beent trying to make them escalate this issue and send it forward but in the end Nvidia support kept telling me this issue is with Warframe and not with my system or Nvidia drivers. I actually managed to escalate this to level 2 whatever that means. The guy from Nvidia most likely contacted Warframe support to confirm this issue is game related. In the end he refused to do anything about it.

And here's what Warframe support told me recently.

"It seems this is a TDR issue related with Nvidia graphic drivers. Can you please try these walkaround below and see if it helps?

Try tuning Nvidia power management to Prefer maximum performance by following the instructions here
Set Windows power management to High performance, and you can learn how to do it in this link or here if you are using Windows 10.
If that doesn't work and you have already installed the most recent Nvidia graphic drivers, there is an new option Debug mode in this driver, and by selecting this mode, the driver will restore the clock speeds of your graphics cards to NVIDIA reference clock speeds.

You can try this options and see if it makes any difference to your problem.

Thanks!"

So what is going on here? Who is actually telling the truth? Actually I don't even care. All I want is this issue to go away. As many other Warframe players do. Here are some threads form different forums with users asking for help and solution which never came. This came from a simple google/steam/warframe forums search. There are plenty more which I simply didn't include.

I dont'know what to do anymore. I've tried Warframe support, I've tried Nvidia support. This is really frustrating. So I'm asking again - HELP solve this critical problem! And I'm asking anyone who has ever experienced this in Warframe to leave a message in this thread. Call it something like #warframefreezesformetoo. If you never experienced this issue please do not post about it here. You may not have it right now but this issue may appear for you in the future. And you will change your tune then. I know the majority of players can enjoy this game without crashes and freezes. But many players sitll have them. Thanks.

This should be sent to support. No one on General discussion is going to be able to really help you more than that. There's also a bug forum too. I know you want de to see this, but blatantly going to the wrong forum is not going to help you.

They covered both those things in their post.

However you are right, this is the certainly the wrong place for this thread. On no account should you post information you want the devs to see in GD.

Not to mention that the megathread and PSA tags shouldn't be used. They're for staff posts only. I suggest you remove them. They won't get this topic seen for the right reasons.

Speaking of topic, back to it. Have you tried the possible workarounds they mentionned? I've took a look at some of the topics you linked above, in many cases a clean reinstall of the game solved the problem. Have you tried that too? I never experienced this issue but then again I'm not running Windows 10 (W7 x64 on an Asus RoG G55VW).

How are you going to attest that it is a critical issue if you only want responses from those experiencing it.  That could be <0.01% of the player base.

As Xirka said, it sounds like a hardware problem in your end.

I never experienced this glitch before and still I can tell my pc is fine. The only issues what I detected is freezes or frame rate drops but I guess those happend because they recently fixed and changed things and those always can cause errors.

I guess this could help a bit outdated but maybe could help a little.

Right, I read it, but still. No one else is really going to be able to help. Realistically, support is the only place where he'll get some kind of solution, especially from de.

No no, I completely agree. I wasn't trying to justify their posting here or anything. Just pointing out they'd covered both support and the bug forums in their thread.

Personally I'm beyond tired with people posting in the wrong place, so no, absolutely no trying to justify it on my end.

AMD or Nvidia support will always throw the game or application that is not performing well under the bus. It's what they do, they never assume that their hardware is at fault. All manufacturers do that, so them telling you that Warframe is the problem is almost meaningless. I speak from experience with ASUS and Sapphire.

As many others have stated before, send this to support. If they choose to act on it, or shove it under the rug, is beyond your or my control. But posting it here and making demands with that tone is not going to get us anywhere. If it does not work with your current PC build, then it is unfortunate. You get the option to tweak it to play the game now. Or to continue to message support or Nvidia and hope that someday in the future they may choose to address the situation.

The only thing other than tweaking your hardware, is to get a spare hard drive and try to see if a clean copy of windows with just the drivers and nothing else will make the game run properly. Or run Furmark with your current setup and see if indeed the graphics card is on it's last legs.

Also I dont know what your hardware is. If you are on a laptop, then that is another entirely different problem.

I suspect the issue started way back when the game is still small, DE might overlooked how the game could expanded into what it is today and didn't do coding to cater for the game's expansion thus many codes are tangled and very difficult to untangle today, hence many of such problems ain't addressed.

This is everywhere online and isn't the game's fault per-se. I haven't played Warframe in a year, but I've had this happen in a handful of games and I've googled it multiple times the past few years. Something I've noticed is that some GPUs don't seem to like their clockspeeds fluctuating quickly, especially not in and out of boost clocks. I have a GTX 780 OC, and I noticed it would only crash in lesser demanding games where it would sit at 901mhz, jump to 1045mhz (boost), then drop to 901mhz and then crashes the driver.

Here's an AMD user who experiences this kind of problem (oh yeah, it's not just Nvidia related)

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/forcing-an-r9-290-to-a-clock-speed.18593390/

There are obvious issues that cause error like straight-up bad drivers from Nvidia, dying GPU/PSU, unstable overclock. The last one gets thrown around a lot because you can buy GPUs pre-OC (like mine); however, as far as I'm concerned, if I can run my GPU at it's max speeds and turn my PC into a jet engine for hours on end and not get a single crash, then I say it's pretty damn stable.

I don't know for sure if this is the problem with most users; however, I've had one tech savvy guy from nvidia's forum confirm this is an issue with the 700 series of cards at least.

But yeah, I'm curious to know your setup and what settings you use in-game (vsync, frame cap etc).

Oh again with OC GPUs. Mine was never overclocked.

Anyway Im just waiting for a closure with Nvidia. Most likely they are not going to do anything about it since the crash they got with QA appeared to be false positive. Warframe support refused to do anything. And then Ill say goodbye to Warframe.

I had massive driver issues and can now say that the Nvidia debug mode has helped greatly with increasing stability in warframe. Thanks!

What Nvidia debug mode does is it forces your GPU to work on default factory frequences i.e. it disables overclocking. So debug mode wont do anything if your GPU is not overclocked. In fact you wont even find that option in Nvidia control panel.

After some further testing, I have warframe running stable now (for over a week!) by removing one of my RAMs. Fixed all! the problems I had with my system. Still came as a surprise cause I performed memtest86 and several others and all came back without results. Will switch around the slots and the rams over the coming weeks to determine exactly which element caused this instability.

I too am having this problem. It's been happening with varying degree since I started playing WF about 2 months ago. I've tried every suggestion, and sometimes they help, but they never get rid of the freeze. So far the most stable it's been is on Nvidia driver 391.24 with no OC on my GPU. I've had about a week without a freeze playing this way, but it reared it's ugly head just a few minutes ago. On the most current drivers, (391.35) I can't play 10min without a freeze. To me that suggests it's an Nvidia problem, however, I can put a mean OC on my GPU and play any other game or benchmark maxed out without a hitch (other than low fps) on those drivers. I can also stress test and never see an issue with the most recent driver.

I noticed that when the freeze happens, it pegs the GPU to %100 and holds it there (regardless of driver #.) It's the only time my GPU ever hits %100. My temps are still fine (max they get to is mid 70s) and I can Alt-tab or alt-window key out of the game and my system is running fine. To me, that screams software problem. Just a hunch, but it feels like a memory leak related to the VRAM. If it were a system ram problem, I'd feel it elsewhere too. If it were solely GPU, I'd get artifacts or a blank screen. But I'm no expert, I just have a lot of experience with PC building and a little bit of coding.

I can leave Aida64 running for hours on end without a fault, stressing the CPU, GPU, and memory at the same time. I don't stress the HD since it's an SSD and I don't want to shorten it's life for no reason, but Aida64 stresses the entire system exponentially harder than WF ever should.

For anyone interested in my system info:

Win10 x64 pro

I-7 6700k @ 4.5ghz

Asus Z170 Deluxe

16gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666mhz

GTX 670 Stock clocks when running WF, otherwise +150 core and +680 mem is stable.

Intel 240gb SSD (forget the model name) Have about 80gb free on it.

Personally, I'd love to hear some response from DE about this issue. The fact that it's gone unaddressed completely feels like getting a cold shoulder, and I don't get the impression that DE is that kind of company.

To all you guys that picture is freezing or crash to desktop im 90% sure its memory problem foulty ram or low voltage bad overclock or setting.

Run this program http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

just open the software if you have CPU with Cores 4/8 threads you open it 8 times type in amout of ram for example if you have 16 gb you type in 2000 in each window and let it run but remember windows and other stuff takes up ram to so type in 1700mb in each and check in task manager so you get close to full ram make sure it runs to atleast 100% this way you can atleast rule out memory problem i know warframe is extreamly sensitive for memory errors it will crash fastest crash would happend in POE if you are a HOST.

GL hope this solves your problems.

I've had driver crashes with other games, yet Warframe hasn't crashed them at all in the past 3 weeks I've been playing.

Memory or other hardware has nothing to do with it. The only thing thats faulty is game engine/coding. Just look at the amount of crashes they introduced with the latest update.

What settings do you run this game on?

This problem came to most users after PoE update. I'm not saying it wasn't present before it, some people reported it earlier. But after PoE the ammount of people that have screen freeze bug with audio present/vibrating has grown drastically. I've been here for around 5 years, Before PoE i haven't had a single issue with that bug. Sure, i had crashes time to time, but not hard crashes that kill my video driver and force me to reboot the PC. This is not on nvidia side for a lot of obvious reasons. Most obvious are (for white knights): 1) AMD users are affected as well, 2) I have literally no problems whatsoever with any games besides Warframe post PoE patch, 3) I haven't changed any game settings, haven't touched my GPU in terms of overcloacking etc, game just started to do it one day and 4) Reinstalling drivers/game/OS/verifying/whatever won't solve the issue because it's on programming level. And DE programming is well known for being one of the worst you have ever witnessed in the entire gamedev history. Support won't do anything, because they simply can't fix their own game, believe me or not, that sounds very pathetic but it's true. It's not the first time they can't handle certain issues, if you've been here for a while you can easily give your own examples, and it will not be the last one - sure of that. The ammount of threads with this bug will only grow over time, but i'm not sure that this is enough for the devs to adress it sadly. As someone said long-long time ago - this game will ALWAYS be beta. And if you don't want to be a non-paid beta tester for another few years - the only solution here is to not play the game at all. I know it's kinda sad, because game itself is fine in most of aspects, but this particular one will bring it into grave sooner or later.

Im having this issue too. Its not a Nvidia Problem, its a warframe using nvidia architecture problem, and I guess its too far over their heads to figure out how to fix it. Afterall they are just a outsource company. They clearly can't handle their own project.
