Passive health regeneration, health regeneration boost with ravenous and using parasitic link so the proxy takes damage, you should rarely go down. If you really desperately need shields on Nidus you'll be pleased to know Suda sells shield drones that can add a flat 200 shields to him. I cannot imagine why you would want shields over a simple steel fiber+vitality combo however. Yes he can't facetank level 100+ enemies like that but that is why you have your other powers, the 3rd power especially and combined with your 4th you can tank through almost anything long enough to nuke them down. There are a healthy supply of guides on using him both on Warframe Builder and Youtube. They, as others have done here, can explain to you the specifics. I pressed the "like" button twice just for you. On Nidus being hard to use because he doesn't have shields, try increasing his base HP and armor. Maybe even use rejuvenation on him. On rank 30, he gets an insane amount of passive hp regeneration (but high level enemies will still kill you if you let them), His second ability is awesome at crowd control if the range and your timing on using it is good, and his 3rd ability turns you almost invincible.
