Changing the time or method of suspension of using the word "gay" in chat

Hello, 

I am not sure if this is in the right section, it's just a really minor topic.

So for the last for the last couple of days, I've spent my time on warframe without any access to region chat, recruit chat, trade chat, squad chat, hell, even private chat, all because I've said the word "gay" once in region. I understand the concerns regarding to the uses of the word "gay" but a 3 entire day suspension of literally any form of communication makes warframe literally unplayable until 3 days or a week. I have been banned at least 3 times for just saying accidentally saying "gay" to my friend

In my opinion, it is extremely stupid to take away someone's ability to communicate int the game for just saying a word. To begin with, the game is rated M and 18+, and i have the right to believe that anyone over 18 can take that much criticism. If we really want to go to the social justice side of things, I can argue that banning the word gay is somewhat erasing the gay people's existence.

The Warframe community overall is a really great community with lovely people, and I don't want to worry about if I am going to get suspended for saying a word. 

It's just really stupid... Please considering changing the suspension method (just ban from region not the entire chat) or the duration.

I know the first amendment doesn't really apply here, since it's a game, and it's also canadian.

The biggest issue with the bot-mod is that it's context-insensitive, but given how it all relies on a quick reaction to "get rid of toxic players" it being overly sensitive is the lesser evil out of the two, the alternative being a horde of moderators (hopefully) trying to catch it all but who would rather sit 12 hours a day looking at chat instead of doing something that is actually productive?

There at least should be an appeal system where bans would be reviewed by an actual, impartial human being. It should work fast as well.

I have made a thread about the problems of the chat system but it got ignored like everything else.

Heres the overall problems soo far and some suggestions:

 

First of all it would be nice if we would get an actual notification of why we were banned from the chat in the form of a pm or an actual inbox message. If club penguin can do it why our game cant? It must tell exactly what was the problem and what was our message, not some vague info on " your message failed to show respect" but actual reasoning with your message.

Second, we need actual information on how long is the suspension because most of the time you are just kicked and thats all. How hard it can be to write you have been kicked till relog or you have been suspended for 2 days, etc....

Third, even while suspended let us see the chats. Theres no reason behind not showing whats going on the chats. Maybe you accidentally triggered kickbot, typed too fast in succession, tried to message someone with all caps name and so on. Its extremly frustrating when you cant access the chats becuase you decided to rapid type in 3 of them.

4th chat suspensions should only go on the chat where you made your error and that is most likely the region chat but even if we agree that it should go on trade and recruit chat too, it doesnt make any sense to apply it to pm, clan and squad chats too. The chatbot/mod could even send out a warning that if you do it again (must write down what you done) your suspension is increased by X hours and you lose access to the remaining chats. Hell they could even send you a copy-paste of the chat rules while at it.

5th Add in an ingame report sytem, many of us can see people throwing various disgusting insults at others but since they dont trigger offended-bot and no mod is online they get away with it. Im not talking about general insult like calling someone stupid or idiot but various racist madness. IF we must have the chat censored to not offend people do it correctly and let us help in it.

 

I would like to summon @[DE]Rebecca and ask her what she thinks about the system and the improvements i suggest. It would be nice to hear an official statement on the problems and not just the usual "this thread has run its cycle we are closing it"

Didn't they fix this a few weeks ago? WTF gay people use the word gay all the time. It's not an offensive word. In fact this word being in autoban filter is kinda offensive in its own right. Why is this still even the case, DE?

That's one of the worst arguments. I'm pretty sure everyone at DE said gay at least once in their lifetime. That doesn't mean all of them should lose their access to the game.
Having AGayGuyPlays as a partner has nothing to do with the rulse for the chat. These are two different things.

Sad fact is that In gaming culture, people are far more likely to use the word in a derogatory way than using it to describe sexuality. Then there's the fact that one that would be playing the game is likely to use the word for it's original meaning, so there's no argument in "Well it means happy" because no one or their grandma actually uses it that way anymore. And, let's be honest, Region Chat is not an appropriate place for discussions about a lot of topics, like sexuality, religion, and politics.

most people use the third meaning of it when they are talking about things, so the word being sensitive at all is kinda odd. it also encroaches on free speech that so many words cant be said in chats ingame because they were once used as derogatory terms. this game has a profanity filter. if people dont want to read the word gay said in the ingame chat then they should be using it. it should not be filtered at a chat ban level.

Odd... I've said gay a few times... actually talking about Golden Gaytimes... Because I'm from Oz, and they just released a topping which is the Golden Gaytime crumbs in their own container... It's clearly an object of conversation...

If there is enough voices maybe it they can reverse... You know what... I just need a reason to post this, I regret nothing.

This might be the case, were it not for the fact that anyone who wants to be toxic can easily do so. Anyone who wants to use these 'bad words' can easily get around an automatic filter without the meaning or intent behind their comments being lost.

Thats the thing, if we have that why the hell the chat still bans us for saying the F-word, G-word, poop starting with s four letters, etc...

Free Speech is about Government censorship of civilians. Private organizations can censor all they want. Their house, their rules.

It does that and can be more if an actual moderator catches you.

We need info on what banned us in actual message, the actual duration of the ban, why its bannable and soo on. This games chat rules are more vague than the actual ingame description we have.

Isn't it quite funny that the OP, already banned three times from chat, wants the duration of his ban lowered?

The only important thing are chat rules written on the forums for everyone to read. So no one will ever have an excuse again for not knowing the rules. That's all there is needed. Nothing else.

Where in the forum rules it states that gay is offensive or  or trap and whatever else?

They are so vague im not even sure how the word god is not bannable yet.

well , in french gay mean "happy" sometimes and mean "homosexual" other time, it's the meaning of the line who tell which one. and i've juste try to say " "i'm happy this morning" in french => je suis gay se matin" 

but in french it's writing "gai" for happy and gay for "homosexual"

the sound is the same.

and i don't ban so ... i think it's not bot broken ^^

Writing the rules ingame wont get a bigger audience, because the chat is too fast to read what's written at the beginning.
So yes, stating the rules on the forums is way better. You can just say: "Go to the forums and read the rules". If someone doesn't do it, who cares?`It's his fault. End of the story.

There is no reason what so ever to use the word "gay" ingame. You want to talk about sexuallity? Fine, but why do you have to do it in an open ingame-chat? Do it in a PM. Or do it in Skype or something.
As I said, no reason to use that word.
And people have to stop their mentality of "I think it's right, so it has to be right". Just because I call my friends gay, and all of us know it's a joke, that doesn't mean I can call a police-man gay. I have enough common sence to know he will get insulted.

Well how else would you want them to know especially since we have an INGAME profainity filter. Currently we cant talk about religion (not even the mighty Spaghetti monster who boiled for our sins), any kind of politics (or anything what can be interpreted as), sexuality in any form (you cant even state that nezha looks too femine for a male, note you dont use the word trap here) and other misc insults like poop, f-word, sometimes hell and soo on.

You know why we have toggleable profanity filter if we cant use them anyways.

I think the bigger problem is DE is catering to a younger crowd even though the game is rated M, its no secret there is a high population of children under the age of 18 playing this game.. But there has to be a better system out there.. I agree with the OP I don't even want to play Warframe if I can't speak, and being banned from chat for saying gay is beyond reasonable especially for a rated M game.
