Lotus has taken a step back

Lotus is normally very talkative in story quests. She's the one mediating between the player and the NPC in question. She's our leader, obviously.

In The Second Dream, the truth about her past came out, and Lotus decided to meet us face to face to help us at our vulnerable point. Players feel betrayed; people want to villainize Lotus for this. Lotus knew we would feel this way which is why she did something she never would before. She saw us--not just our frame, but us. She gave us her utmost attention, and then left us alone for an entire quest. She let us engage with Baro Ki'Teer independently. She's giving us the space we need to deal with recent revelations. She wants to be a good mother.

...just some shower thoughts.

Although chronologically Sands of Inaros released after The Second Dream, the two Quests have no relation. To a player that starts the game now, it seems likely they'll probably complete Inaros before 2nd Dream.

That is to say, Sands of Inaros is just a 'side quest' (Baro's side quest, specifically) while Second Dream is part of the 'main story'.

The handling of story stuff itself in Warframe is on par with the best AAA games out there today. Better, actually. I applaud the effort and consideration DE has given to their narrative pieces.

If only they would give the rest of the game this sort of tender care and focus in overhauling fundamental systems, Warframe would be a much better title. I've a feeling though that story stuff is THEM; its the developers doing what they want to do how they want to do it. While the game play and grind mechanics are more publisher/managing company influence...

She lets us do a lot of things independently. She plays little to no part in The Jordas Precept, A Man of Few Words, and The Limbo Theorem to name just a few.

Open your eyes Tenno and wake from the dream. You have been lied to, used over and over. She didn't save you she just found a way to save herself.

You know, I'd be inclined to agree with you if not for the fact that Baro actually mentions transference at one point during the quest.

Cause humans are relatable to players^^ -_-

You know sometimes making a good game is more important than lore.

Well, the game itself showed us how Sentients look like, Hunhow and his parts. Lotus is his daughter, hard to imagine how something like that will have a "daughter" in this shape. But ofc, we still don't know what Sentients actually are. If they reveal in the end they are human shape entities that can control technologies then well.....

I always figured it was because she was sent to infiltrate and destroy the Orokin Empire and the Tenno.

Yes and in a good game you build the lore around the stuff people like and not the other way round^^ -_-

Meaning they decide she is human, cus people relate to humans and then they build the lore around that.

Kinda like Gearoge Lucas built Star Wars around the toys he wanted to sell.

Is this real independence, or the appearance of independence?

Lotus has, in the past, shut down our every attempt to do something outside her realm of want. Specifically, within Archwing missions, should you attempt to leave the mission and explore space:
"Tenno, are you abandoning this battle? Return to your objective or I will have Ordis extract you."

For the Intro,
"For generations you've slept, no purpose, no call to wake you. But now, something has arisen from the ruins of the Old War."
The Operatives are put into sleep when the Lotus doesn't need them. There is no freedom for us.

During Natah:
"Teshin! You don't have the authority. You are endangering the Tenno."
The Lotus would never allow us to do anything we felt truly endangered us. Though, endangerment was required to protect herself and the rest of her Operatives.

There may be more, this is just what I know of. A parent's child has no real freedoms, they are subjected to the house, to their mother.

Have you finished the Second Dream?

There it is somewhat hinted that Lotus took the appearance of Margulis.

I don't believe he did. I think you're referring to this comment:

Remember. we're here for relics, not stories, so I'd appreciate if you kept your Tenno soma-void-resonance.. 'thing' to a minimum

IMHO this is not about transference, it's giving a in-word explanation to the Tenno's ability to hear past events due to some kind of "void imprint" of important events. Which is good as it means that the Second dream reveals of Margulis and Ballas are considered in-game knowledge not just an atmospheric 4th wall breach.

Could it be this 'Void resonance' that is why we're seeing these Lunar phantoms, for want of a better name? Considering Luna's circumstances, the Void is exceptionally strong there what with the Gold/Green energy cracks that confer random buffs.

Though it's interesting that people in contact with a Tenno experiencing this trait are brought into the loop as well. Baro certainly wasn't banking on that happening whatsoever...though perhaps wasn't too sore about it when all was said and done. Yay closure!
