so I got to mr 9 a few days ago and I think its time to use a different weapon besides broken war, got any suggestions?

What weapons have you already tried? Which ones do you enjoy? Rifles? bows? shotguns? Swords? Nikanas? staves? heavy blades? whips? Warfans? Have a look at weapons of the same type that you've previously enjoyed and try some of the same ones?

MR 9 is too early to start chasing "meta" weapons, especially since almost all in-game content can be done with pretty much any weapon.

The suggestions given above are all good weapons, but you should concentrate on trying out new ones, not chasing after whatever's meta.

I wouldn't give up on Broken War so quickly. With 35% crit chance, 20% status chance, 80% slash weight and a decent riven dispo it's is one of the best melee weapons in the game.

Do not use Broken War it to make War. Broken War is a better weapon.

There are better one. But what is more important that you learn the basics and your favoured playstile. If a weapon isn't fun just drop it and try something differnt you might enjoy. Otherwise will you not enjoy this game.^^

About the actual power level of the Pathocyst. Like I said it isn't the strongest, but that doesn't mean that it's weak. It's might deal less damage than other glaives, but the status chance and that it can inflict viral without extra mods allows to use some pretty insane elemental combinations. With insane elemtal combinations do I mean reducing the enemy armor by 97,2% and dealing 200-325% more damage. This is more than enough to bring you trough the steelpath (if you don't know what it is don't google it, because spoiler)

 

btw. about you playstile. Do you favor short range fights or are you more the one with the sniper who kills everthing from +100m? Or something in the middle? And wahta warframe do you currently like to use. Some warframes has some good weapon combinations.

Among glaives it is crap but all glaives, when modded for heavy attack explosions, are star chart viable. But yeah... Kestrel isn't great.

Even the stug can do the normal star chart. But use it in a railjack, sortie or any other game mode which is harder than normal star chart. The normal star chart is actually just baby mode and steel path is normal mode, because steel path require at least the basic understanding how to fight enemy x or y.

My melees are galatine , ether sword, pathocyst, broken war, masseter and skiajati. My primaries are: dex sybaris , nagantaka, hek, normal ignis, drakgoon, dread, tonker and mutalist cernos. My secondaries are: gammacor dex furis and ballistica.

Consider chasing a kuva weapon. You can get one at any time after beating War Within, and most of them are good. Kuva Nukor and Kuva Bramma are the popular options, but it's hard to go wrong with any weapon that has good base stats, 10 extra capacity, and 30%-60% bonus damage.

Pick a thing you like.

Its usable for what you'll need it for issue is most things that get even slightly overshadowed immediately get labeled as trash.
take it from me a person who's using the pathocyst since even bwfore the glaive rework was announced.

It's fun and also give you cc from the maggots that spawn.

So as a lover of all things gimmick I will present some highlights of those that I have tried, as a general rule gimmicky weapons will be more enjoyable than your standard basic weapons.
C=Clan, F=farm parts, W=requires weapons in crafting. (WF = requires weapon that you need to farm parts for)
Here's some gimmicky weapons I've used that I found enjoyable, note that not all these will be MR 9 or lower
Stuff I found very fun and used for a while:
Primary: (MR11,C)Buzlok,(MR7,C) Argonak, (MR8,C)Komorex.
Secondary: (MR8,C)Cyanex, (MR11, C)Dual Toxocyst, (MR8,F)Epitaph, (MR7)Fusilai.
Melee: (MR,C)Caustacyst,(MR,F) Pathocyst, (MR4,W)Redeemer.

Impractical but fun:
Secondary: (MR3,C)Castanas.

Some things that weren't quite my cup of tea but were also fun.
Primary: Panthera(MR7,WF), (MR9) Phantasma.
Secondary: (MR10,C)Arca Sciso, (MR10)Knell, (MR7,W) Hystrix,(MR9) Quatz.
Melee:(MR10) Arca Titron.

if you cant hit consitant headshots you may want to steer clear of the Dual Toxocyst and Knell.
I also highly reccomend sword and shields with the final harbinger stance.
Most of the daily weapons have cool/fun gimmicks although I only have the zenith so far.

I hate it (design), but when you like it use it.

Btw. Did you used the Lex Prime? It's not the best weapon, but the sound& design combination is just perfection.
