Question

i though i would make a thread for players with more experience in the game to give some basic advice for new plays

never EVER stand still in this game for more than 3 seconds unless you want to go down only time its safe to stand still is if your in a snow globe but even then its risky.

just though i would give a public service announcement because iv seen lots of new palyers making this mistake

also use your start plat for slots nothing else.

and never buy a prime until after you use the original weapon. so you dont waste your plat on a weapon you dont like

also missions you must finish in this order vors prize, once awake, archwing, natah, second dream dont go to the void T3-4 till after you complete these things.

just some advice

post your advice for new player

I would suggest:

1- The wikia is the most reliable source when you need to find out about things, this includes showing the locations for archwings, prime weapons and frames etc. Use this as an extremely reliable source of information to guide you.

2- Take your time and learn the different roles and builds that each frame can have, don't feel the need to have to have a specialised build. Having a specialised build takes time and experience to become comfortable and to use the build effectively.

3- Everything in warframe is obtainable outside of purchasing platinum to make it faster. It gets better and easier the further you get in because you've saved and gathered a lot of resources over time. Don't push yourself to get the top weapons because someone says it's the best weapon. Get them in YOUR time not because of others. Also I recommend getting the frames and weapons through normal ways rather than platinum as it sucks the fun out of getting the

4- Joining a clan makes the game fun but also gives you access to a lot more weapons from the corpus, infested and grineer weapon range. It's also a fun way to help contribute and play with others. Solo'ing can have it's fun but the real fun is playing with others and working together as a team.

5- Don't taxi to places like Ceres just for Draco, take your time travelling through the starchart instead! It's not very fun when some low mastery rank players (please note I speak about the ones completely unprepared, this is not to be rude towards them I was once a beginner but it is for their benefit and that of others in the mission) make it harder to complete the round. Take your time and complete the tilesets and these will allow you to enjoy the area and gain the experience when you unlock more tilesets.

6- Mastery Rank does not determine how good you are as a player. What does make you a good player is the amount of experience, this includes how well you use different frames and apply your playstyle to them, as well as how well you use the weapons equipped on your loadout (ask yourself do you mod for status or crit? what will make your weapon more powerful against enemies?).

7- Obtaining the frames themselves is a fun experience and doing it over time is a great way to appreciate the 'journey' to getting them. They are all obtainable through different means it's just taking your time and being patient with getting them. Some will be easy to get, and others will be harder to get (Mesa/Vauban/Nekros etc) due to level scaling, rng and drop chances.

8- Follow the basic rules when you're dealing with trade chat: a) Don't pay no higher than 100plat max for a prime weapon b) Go in with a price that you are wanting to buy it for, and learn what price/s are reasonable for that item (e.g. don't pay 200+ plat for the slash or puncture set it's better used on a prime frame) c) Try and sell some prime sets for yourself as a good way to earn platinum, even if it's just every now and then. BUT. Believe me when I say it takes a lot of time and experience to trade well and I've helped clanmates to get rhino prime (for cheap) before it was vaulted.

Never buy weapons or frames, you may find out the item in question sucks, or that you don't like it. money wasted.

ALWAYS have a new item building, so that by the time you're done leveling your current item (frame, weapon, companion etc) you're ready for a new one.

Be careful on trade, 98% of the players on there will try to price gouge you on EVERYTHING.

Keep an open mind on stuff, you may find you like a frame you thought you'd hate.

Be ready for a grind, it's part of the game.

My best advice for new players would be to learn the modding system.

When i first started, i didn't know exactly how mods worked, and to this day i remember doing '1' damage on Jupiter missions with my shoddily modded Braton.... with an equally shoddily modded Loki who was my starter.

Learn to mod, and increase your effectiveness as you go. You will find hopping about the solar system more enjoyable afterwards.

I'd advise the following:

1. Have fun, don't rush the mastery grind, enjoy the weapons, because there will be that time eventually when you have squeezed the mastery out of everything with nothing else to do.

2. Don't focus on obtaining 1 specific thing, you will burn out.

3. Run.

4. Don't ask for advice with your builds, be creative and explore what works for you best, because chances are people will suggest a build that's pretty much trash. Now, I'm not saying avoid them completely, just take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt.

5. Learn to use search engines eg. google, warframe wiki, forums etc. A lot of useful information can be obtained that way.

OP, you should request this be moved to 'players helping players'. That sub forum orders posts based on their ranking, and if new players find a particular tip useful, they can 1up it and increase its ranking. So the thread gets ordered with the best tips first, and anything other later.

My advice would be to have patience. As a new player, you tend not to have many resources (especially some that longer tenured players take for granted) and eventually will find situations that seem frustrating - you'll be outmatched and probably are pretty squishy.

Most of us went through that stage- it's not new to games in general but it can seem harsh when you first hit that 'wall'.

Try to get comfortable with the movement system - it's particularly helpful for survival when you've become proficient with it.

That's like trying to decide whether to watch Bakemonogatari in chronological order, or broadcast order.

well then good luck not having a full kit till your rank 10

Full kit? I enjoyed the game without the focus for 21 mastery ranks.

Imagine that people were able to sortie and raid and whatnot (events?) without Energy Overflow or Shadow Step.

The later you unlock your focus the better experience you have with the game. That's just my opinion. The focus is cheesy and trivializes the game too much :[

Dont waste your starting 50 plats on syandanas or skins. Buy 1 warframe slot (20pl) and 4 weapons slots (2x12pl), thats the BEST way you can spend it. It will help you have a reasonable amount of space for variety in warframes and weapons without having to delete things you like to advance. Nobody tells you that when you start and i will never be tired of giving that advice.

Make some friends (more fun), dont be afraid to ask other players (check the relays for guides of the lotus, the walking "costumer service"), joining a clan also helps, make the recruiting tab your ally.

Also dont sell any weapon/warframe/etc till you get them to lvl30 to earn the maximun mastery points from it

Well, focus is an end game system after all.

At least it's supposed to be.

Wiki Wiki Wiki

Wiki

WIki

Have a goal

Only spend plat on things you CANNOT farm if you can help it. (cosmetics, slots, etcetera)

Only BUY plat if you get a 50 or 75% off coupon (or a Prime Vault/Access crops up for something you tried the Base version of and enjoyed)

TRY not to be daunted by Trade chat. (it REALLY needs a revamp >.<)

find the Hek. Use it. you can get it pretty early and it'll last you through Endgame as one of your more powerful weapons when modded properly

Kubrow are generally better than Sentinels, but are a credit sink. this is alleviated a LOT when you get the Incubator Upgrade from Clantech

JOIN A CLAN

it REALLY helps to have a buddy who's played a bunch before you joined. they can give you some "common" mods you won't be finding for a while, even a few that're maxed. a Maxed Pressure Point at MR0 is a GODSEND

learn the modding system. it's not too difficult actually.

run as many nodes as you can. you get bonus Mastery for each one and each one you have unlocked ups the number of nodes you can visit for alerts, invasions, and Sorties. unlock them all, and you'll never have to ask for a Taxi.

the game is best played co-op

I HIGHLY recommend farming Valkyr from Jupiter if you're having trouble. she'll carry you completely through the Starchart if built even remotely well. just don't OVER-Use her or you'll get reliant on her invul

run Vault runs through your clan/alliance/recruiting tab. run a LOT of them. only about half the mods from there are any good, and are expensive to max. but that 50% are almost ESSENTIAL for high-level builds and people WILL buy them on Trade chat for Plat. learn to love Vault runs.

Look at the wiki WHENEVER you have a question

Try and find what frame you'll enjoy playing the most at first. then farm them (usually through a Taxi) this should increase your enjoyment of the game

Remember the forums and wiki are the ultimate guides

1. Use the first 50 plat on slots

2. Mod up

3. Dont touch PvP or else you will be crushed, stomped, terrified and shocked

4. If you want to kill things, hit it in the face

5. Buy codex scanners(and synthesis scanners with Sol-Battery widget later on)      to scan everything and learn their weaknesses.

6. Join a clan for Clantech. I recommend getting a Helios sentinel to halp you          scan everything

7. Farm prime weps ONLY after you maxed the originals

8. Max all beginner weps to avoid being an MR21 player that hasnt maxed the          Mk-1 Braton

9. Git güd

10. Complete all nodes so you can taxi and not ask for a taxi

11. Learn trading and sweet profit

12. Spam PvP

Extensively study damage types here: www.warframe.wikia.com/Damage_2.0

Use starting plat for slots, ask friends if they can get you a braton or paris prime so you can catalyse it and have a good primary.

If you don't mind melee spam get valkyr and max your melee crit mods first (it does build bad habits so try not to use hysteria ALL the time).

Unlock the starchart ASAP for alerts and invasions, run all nitain alerts you can.

Get frames with great variety in abilities first so you can deal with a lot of situations.

Start ranking syndicates ASAP, they're a stable source of platinum once maxed. Run a lot of void missions too and if you get lucky twce on on  part sell the copy (only applies to high cost items ofc) and turn the spares into ducats. I recommend saving loki p items next, he's next in line for vaulting and really good.
