Yep, HG right now is just place the carpet and forget it is there once you get the armor buff. Although it apply some radiation procs, still i think that they should remove it and change it with other skill like they did with super jump of excalibur, right now you don't have much incentive to stand on it unless the enemies cause a lot of procs, but still it limits a lot your battleground. They are too lazy IMO.

Radiation cloud reduce your vision, they look great and all that but anything in front of you gets semi-blurry so that would just feel like a terrible addition.
180-260 degrees is not a small cone.

Trying to hold a permanent heal in a toxic hazard isn't a great idea, you probably won't actually need such a heal if you play the raid correctly, it might be best to go the trinity route and just cast-uncast Renewal on the first map if you want to keep your energy. Gotta adapt to the situation, you know.

Not only do the enemies get radiation proc almost instantly, it also prevent negative status effects as long as you stay on it.
Give yourself a little bit of healing return or use the Rakta Dark Dagger and you'll have a slightly better time at staying alive since you won't fall for the procs that usually kill you.

Edit: As Hypernault said below, it also strips down Total armor when used in synergy. ( Put on the Hallowed ground augment and you get yourself a slight nuke with enemies that have reduced armor. )

@[DE]Megan That is my one issue with this update. Oberon is still being punished for being a team player vs playing solo and has no real way of scavenging energy.

The 'easy' thing to do would be to re-enable zennurik/EV Trinity/Energy Siphon at perhaps a 50% energy generation while renewal is going. However it's likely the point of disabling those was to remove passivly generated energy you don't need to do anything to have.

So I have two ideas:

1. Enemies hit with reckoning have a 25% chance to drop energy orbs if killed within x seconds (affected by duration, base of five seconds.)

2. Enemies killed on hallowed ground gives Oberon 5 energy.

I like Option 1 better since it gives me a reason to cast reckoning and the rest of my team benefits plus it removes reckoning having an 'on kill' mechanic for an ability that's supposed to be group CC rather than murder-y. Thoughts?

Like... Oberon is almost done as far as I'm cocnerned. Not everything I want implimented but just from quick tests he feels a lot nicer.

Well I think DE's latest hotfix did a decent job and the only thing I'd like to add to the change list is that health orb drop from reckoning(maybe this is the final patch for him so he won't receive any changes in a short time) but I really appreciate DE for listening to our feedbacks.

Guys, with 170% str he has 51% armor reduction. Transient Fortitude + Power Drift. That is all you need in order to just tap 4 twice and strip everything of armor. He is now the uncontested best armor stripper in the game without a doubt. The only thing that comes close is an Ash spamming pressing his 1 key, and he still falls short to Oberon and can't provide nearly as much aside from that to his team that Oberon can. Combine that with Phoenix/Iron Renewal, and you have yourself a frontline, armor shredding beast. He is without a doubt a top tier frame.

"Oberon is a Jack of all Trades, master of none" - Really? Walk into a room full of armored enemies, who better to strip them of armor than Oberon? Literally, press 2, press 4 twice. Done.

Between his Renewal being a toggled ability, Iron Renewal activating once an ally walks on HG, the amazing amount of survivability Phoenix/Iron+Renewal combined offer to Oberon and allies, and his Reckoning reliably stripping enemies of armor... we now have ourselves a frontline, armor crushing support that spreads his awesome tankiness with the rest of his team and is able to control the map through wide spread radiation and smart HG placement.

Can stuff change? Sure. But really, look at the product that DE has come up with. Compare him to other frames. The way I'm seeing it, his widespread radiation procs trashes the infested faction and all their auras. His armor stripping not only trashes the grineer and corrupted factions, but turns Oberon into a walking 4xCP that also raises the durability of his allies to nice levels.

I am VERY happy with the Oberon changes and to be honest I was prior to the latest hotfix, after the hotfix though? This is undeniable. He isn't OP or broken in any way. This is the example of a balanced Warframe and appreciate the approach DE took with Oberon. After what happened with Limbo's release where he was too good and had to be nerfed down to earth, Oberon was handled with much care and the staff handled it and the criticism VERY well and was able to give us a great product without all the chaos that ensued following the Limbo release.

Thank you DE for not only reworking this frame, but also with handling it so well. The finished product is amazing.

As of the current patch Oberon now reliably

  • Clears and protects against status procs through HG
  • Reliably Heals and provides an armour buff for teammates through Iron renewal
  • Hard and Soft CC through Reckoning
  • Reliably Strips armour with Reckoning

He's now a very reliable generalist frame.

At this point the argument of "everything Oberon can do, other frames do better" can finally be laid to rest. Specialist will out do him, but that is the point of a generalist frame, his niche is very solid right now

Thats the thing, there isn't a single frame in this game that can strip a room full of enemies of armor as fast a Oberon. Frost has to sacrifice everything in order to make it work and the range is garbage. Ash has to spam the 1 key and pray to RNGesus that it hits the right targets. Oberon? He doesn't have to sacrifice anything. 170% str, decent rng and eff, and he can just walk into rooms and press 2 followed by 2 presses of the 4 key. GG. All the while, he is providing his party with large amounts of utility and controlling the map. He is without competition the best armor stripper in the game, that is his niche on top of all the different ways he can support his party.

If a party wants to strip armor they would go with CP, yes Oberon strips armour very well but won't be the meta for it. However that doesn't take away from the fact that he does it very reliably now.

His Prime Access will be much better received now

Every group:

Does anyone in the squad not have a dash polarity? Is this a pub? Are you solo?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I would recommend giving Oberon a look because he is as it stands one of the best frames in the game at carrying groups and is fun to play with. He brings something unique to the table now being a one man 4xCP, as he can do his job as a support while simultaneously seriously debuffing the enemies and controlling the map.

And just in time for PA! *shock*awe*

kidding, I'm glad that he is finally in a good place, if that is where he is, I haven't played the additions to him yet.

Has this been proven yet?

1. Five defense missions in and i'm noticing that anyone standing on the target is still considered not on hallowed ground. However given iron renewal applies if a renewal target steps on hallowed ground this is now less of an issue than it was.

Hallowed Ground is still ugly, I'm hoping these are just temp visuals til the earth remaster we were promised this month?

Nekros isn't AS demanding as he was, but I can still feel the energy sink. Either hallowed ground and or reckoning having an energy scavanging mechanic would mitigate this and make Oberon have to work for energy as opposed to just passivly gaining through zennurik/trinity/siphon.

I just tested it myself. He is an armor stripping beast. 1 man 4xCP.

As for energy? The safety net of Phoenix Renewal makes Rage a safe choice to rely on, if not then Guardian Derision forces enemies to strike you. And with the increased energy pool they gave him, especially with (Primed) Flow, he has a ton of energy to work with.

Lol, my Oberon has 254% pwr str and 76% armor reduction.  Your post brought out that there are useful Exilus mods.  Ive been using Rush this whole time as I didnt care for any of the Parkour mods, unaware there was POwer Drift in there that was actually useful.

IDK what I did to a Juggernutz just now but I spent 5 soma prime rounds and killed him, right through his otherwise impervious shell......

Guess CP+#4+Corrosive Soma Prime does good work on armor haha.

still no use for him in my squads, not with the forced synergy and exponential energy consumption. why would i stop using trinity, or equinox, or any other frame that does what he can but better at less energy cost, he is a detriment to any and all players by being a total halfarse at everything he does. his one is the only thing that works.

Okay, got a chance to play him for a while. I still think there's a few things Oberon needs before they can get away with calling him done.

  • Needs a bit more base armor. He's still surprisingly squishy without Iron Renewal, but it's old knowledge that Oberon needs more armor, so nothing new there.
  • Hallowed Ground still needs to be a circle. In areas like hallways I have to turn sideways and face the wall before casting to get the whole area. And in large rooms I just have to suck it up and deal with the fact that there will always be some tiny random piece of ground that's not covered. There's really no good reason for them to keep it as an arc. It's a pointless annoyance.
  • He still needs a worthwhile passive. Or the passive he currently has at least needs to extend to sentinels.
  • Smite needs to lose the scaling split, and just do 5% per orb instead. There's no justifying the way it currently works. It's arguably a bug for Power Strength to make the skill weaker.

Trinity doesn't protect against status, nor strips armor off enemies reliably or as quickly.

Equinox Doesn't even strip armour nor heal allies as quickly as he can, to do so she must switch forms. Oberon does this simultaneously.

Oberon may not be useful to you, but his current patch makes him a solid pick for any team and he's a very reliable frame for pub and organize play.

edit: Also, do go on, explain to me how he's a detriment with the utility he now brings.

Some people will never be happy. He is now a top tier frame. Aside from Limbo, Octavia, and Ivara who are the kings and queens of Warframe and making everything obsolete, there are few frames that you can say outright outclass him.

He is an armor stripping beast, the best in the game actually.

Status immunity to all those on his HG.

He is durable with Iron Renewal, Phoenix Renewal, and Renewal. Unlike other durable frames, he can share said durability with his whole party.

He has light map control, able to lay Hallowed Ground at strategic points around the map to confuse enemies at the points.

From there, he can decide to either focus on himself or the party with a great buff Smite Infusion.

Also, I'd strongly consider making use of his passive instead of changing it, because a Sahasa Kubrow will help you with your energy problem while simultaneously helping the party.

That is exactly the wrong way to look at it. These are obvious minor loose ends that need tying up, not major suggestions.

See, the thing is that vacuum on literally any sentinel helps overall more than Sahasa Kubrows do, without requiring upkeep. Meanwhile, using Taxon gets you that sweet, sweet, vacuum, while also almost constantly triggering Growing Power, which is now pretty damn important for the synergy effects.

I'd consider Sahasa, but it pales in comparison in every way except generating more energy. For that, I can just have my party go without Renewal every now and then if my reserves get too low, as Zenurik takes effect. Now that Iron Renewal is less of a huge pain to put on, I'm OK with this.
