My verdict on Orphix Venom event

This event was, in my eyes, a lot better than Scarlet Spear, for a multitude of reasons.

Rewards:

DE used a far better strategy for rewards this time. The mission itself can drop parts of both Lavos and Cedo, and the new mech mods. However, if you have bad luck, you can always farm the cells and buy them directly from Father. Far less reliant on RNG, yet you can get lucky and save some cells for other stuff of your choosing.

The cosmetics for guns and mechs are pretty cool. I really like the Sepulchrax skins, and the Cryptanaut helmet kinda looks like Doomguy.

Also, compared to Scarlet Spear, you don't have to wait for some lobby-bound timer to expire or wait for Murexes to be depleted, because if you leave the hub instance you started the event from before either timer or Murex runs out, you lose eligibility for Scarlet Creds from that instance.

Gameplay:

It's a lot less timer dependent compared to SS. You don't have to wait for your Op-links to send kill-codes to Murex teams, you just have to brute-force the Orphixes (and use Flucti to kill resonators quickly). Also, Sentients spawn constantly, which in turn increases in-flow of points (provided you kill them).

I admit that it gets pretty repetitive, but stomping around in a big rust-bucket can be enjoyable. Not to mention you have infinite ammo on your Archguns when in a mech.

All in all, I enjoyed this event a lot. As for the purpose of testing Mech usage in normal missions, I say it was a success. Of course, not flawless but a few tweaks can fix those flaws.

so few times worser currency gain (which made ss rewards few times easier to pick) is better cause random drops from orphix? ok.

so having obsolete stupid 1,5 min set timer between orphix just to make you sit in 54 mins (without being able speed it up) is less time dependent.

ye especially being locked inside that bucket and have 0 alternative to use anything else from your arsenal.

i mean, you enjoy it it's great, but calling this lazy created event better, well, no.

less gameplay choices, way less rewarding and more time consuming is clearly not better from any perspective.

SS was 4x time more rewarding then OV , thats a fact if you look up at scoring getting converted into currency .

And while its noce to have Lavos and Cedo in drop tables , said drop tables are deluded to the point that its easyer to grind out currency then praying for RNGesus .

Arcanes in SS cost 5 times more event currency than in OV. That's a fact if you look up things before talking out of your ass

yes, except it was 4k credits for 15/20 minutes (depending space/ground) and + x2 of that as relay ends in case of win (and ye pretty much every relay in range of 2h30 mins was success)

so it's 3 legendary arcanes per 15/20 mins average.

It surely wasn't. I think doing the same thing over and over again takes a mental toll(being bored to death), despite the operator/Necramech dynamic(because it still means less options as opposed to the meta squad of SS which had 3 or 4 playable frames) and in OV a complete run takes around an hour, while it took less than half of that in SS, which meant going back to the orbiter, custimizing gear(a small breather) etc.

Both events are bland and repetitive, but OV is just worse when it comes to that.

Does it matter which was better? if you had fun in them then the event was fine.

I personally like scarlet spear more because you could use your warframes and weapons, OV is restricted to mechs only and if people found it fun then the event was fine, just glad its over now

Having never done SS (I take frequent breaks from the grindfest which seem to be either during SS and/or Acolytes :D) I found this extremely difficult; it took around 55 minutes to net 2K cells, for me 55 minutes in WF is an eternity, usually don't go passed 20-30 minutes on any activity. I managed to get one rank 3 arcane a week but burned out and am now finding myself struggling to play at all.

Seems a mistake to compare it to scarlet spear! it wasn't an event to get a warframe, it was an event to get arcanes with a few random trinkets thrown in to give people that have them all some content!, but as a way to get a warframe? this is far less interesting way to go than something deadlock! which came with its own story!

as an event its horrible! its still plagued with bugs related to throwing the player out of their warframe and maneuverability issues its also SO grindy I burnt out with mechs and don't see myself ever deploying my mech on a regular mission!! I was luke warm about them in the first place, now I have run them so much I hate them and realize they are just another (more inferior) warframe!

i can fully agree with the OP (and it saves me writting this nearly in the same way too ^^)

only thing i want to add is that the rewards system, though far better done than in SS, contained a little to less for those of us who already had all the arcanes from SS or simply years of eidolon hunting... yes, i know what the cost for every maxed out arcane in terms of operation credits are if one would need to get them all during OV and that putting in even more rewards would just increase the pressure for those players but still.... after i got most of the new stuff as rewards in-mission (guess i was one of the lucky players here) and since i had all arcane maxed out already, i only played for the sake of my clan members and friends who needed the credit for it. if there would have been some more usefull rewards like umbra formas (regardless of the price) i sure would have played it more than that though.

there is one point that had quite a negative impact for me though (and i don't mean the bugs this time): the scoring for the operation... even now with it nearly done, DE never really took the absurd points those ranked players reached serious and maybe tested their own operation under the best possible circumstances (meaning top-team play and best map-layout) to verify whar is actually possible to reach. in my experience this would about 30k - maybe 32k if there are no screwups, top performance of the team and a very lucky map-layout... everything above that is done either by exploiting the many flaws in the game itself or the operation specifically or simply by glitches (i assume accidently done). those 'accidents' DE took care of - even they saw that over 100K was somewhat unrealistic (especially when done by only one player and not a team... btw, right now there is again someone with over 73k on the top... so the glitches still exists). true, there is no real incentive for being in the top-ranking (player and/or clan-wise) or else there would be far more crap flying around in the forum but it still annoys me to no end that such things are tolerated - and i assume that its also because DE can't prove those player of being cheats... one more reason to either cap the whole thing at a certain mark (this would mean they had tested it thoroughly beforehand though) or just forget about the whole ranking altogether... but i guess that the 'competitive' nature of something, regardless of rewards, lengthen the players playtime and thus they put it in. this is not raising the trust in DE to ever provide a ranking event where there is indeed something to gain from (remember the ignis wraith).

i mean, you enjoy it it's great, but calling this lazy created event better, well, no.

less gameplay choices, way less rewarding and more time consuming is clearly not better from any perspective.

1) Yes, at least as far as the event proper goes. I mean Scarlet spear only became rewarding when they started doubling the pay out after we killed all the Murex.
2) That timer is there to increase your score, could it have been done better? Yes, it would be better for all intents and purposes if the scoring wasn't so exploitable as it was done in Orphix Venom. The sentients score should be erradicated, and the variability in score should be just tied to how fast you kill your orphix. (Which is what that timer is attempting).
The timer also provides the difficulty for the game mode. Sure they could bypass the timer when a orphix dies, spawn one in 10-15 seconds after death of the first, but keep the 90s for the difficulty setting.

3) There's a ton of stuff you can bring with you from your arsenal. Just not everything, but Warframes can be used to complement the match, and some weapons (broken scepter) can be useful as well. Its good to have variability. And some times restrictions force you to improve.

4) Well, depends, SS was incredibly easy at all difficulties, especially before they nerfed Limbo. Still it was quite easy and equally boring as this, with the added problem of allowing you full use of your arsenal, which means it could be made as boring as you wished it (again Limbo was probably the most used frame there). As for time consuming, i think it was around the same time frames, no? SS was in hourly rotations, and OV takes ~1h to finish 36.

IMO they are both comparable events, and quite enjoyable. My problem is that DE didn't take advantage of them fully, and instead of making the "New War" happen for real, they're lollygagging and wasting resources, would be much better if this was launched from the SS relay, even with father helping (could have a hologram or a construct representing him in the relay) and have the objectives and problems better represented.

My vision for the new war could be a bit of a lot of stuff we've already seen, we'd have a Scarlet spear room in each relay to protect each planet and monitor sentient activity, in the same vein, we'd have events like the one where we rebuilt the relay on Earth to add relays to the planets without them (or have proper delineated sectors with relays).
Orphix Venom would be the sentients attempt to destroy the relays by hijacking ships from other factions to assault our relays.
Failing a Orphic Venom phase would trigger a Fomorian or a Razorback event, but this time with sentients augmenting the normal mission, failing that would destroy Rails, and lose the sector, which would make the neighbouring sectors harder to hold.
Along with Venom you'd have Scarlet spear to clear Sentient presence in systems. (We would have a level for each planet, with 3 tiers Sentient held, Contested, Clear).

After you'd cleared a planet from sentients, you could start doing Scarlet spears on the neighbouring planets, when you reduced it to contested, you could start missions to rebuild the relay (could have railjack missions to escort and protect the intial phases, and then have the old event with providing mats to finish it), then with a relay you could start doing SS to clear the sector, while still defending.

Now and then there could be reinforcements from Tau, and other operations to increase the complexity.

IMO this would make the whole thing much better, and actually make it seem like there's a war, instead of having us forget about it for a year until the next operation...
