Worm4real Posted March 3, 2019 Share Posted March 3, 2019 (edited) I realize that everyone is just going to hate what I have to say here and that's fine. I personally think Wisp is a little much. When I saw it I felt like it just was too much, then when I saw the run animation they were doing I felt it was a little obscene. I don't have a huge problem with Warframes being sexy or whatever, but I really think they're being too cheeky (heh) with this one. It almost feels like we're not too far off from a Warframe that holds up her leg like Juri and wiggles her toes. Personally I wouldn't give a warframe named Wisp a giant butt, but my issue is slightly more than that. I like Warframes like Nekros or Ivara(I know Ivara has a big butt, but she also has neat stuff like bolts on her hips) that really don't look human at all. It feels like Wisp we're just back to "this is a person in a latex suit". Sure it's a latex suit with no feet, but still. When I heard wisp I thought of a really ephemeral wispy design and what I got was a big butt instagram girl. LSG501 Posted March 3, 2019 Share Posted March 3, 2019 (edited) Honestly I just thought the entire movement they'd given it looked totally unnatural/unrealistic, now I could have understood if the entire body had a proper shimmer or something but they've basically just animated the waist down and imo it's just looks weird. The term wisp is wide an can mean several things, you have anything from seductive nature spirits to malicious little lights leading the living to their doom. A big butt deffinently screams seductive nature in my mind since what manages to seduce people has changed vastly over the centirues and millennias. There is the ancient story about the Näcken in scandinavia, the river/stream fiddler/violinist that led people to their death through their music. This even led to the instrument itself to be seen as something sexual and obscure. A fiddler had pretty much the same rep as a hair metal guitarist humping his axe in the 80's. And it isnt like we cant make some of the current frames look very seductive and perveted anyways. My Garuda for instance looks like some cenobite lady in black leather and naked ripped skin. And remember, you will be able to just switch out her animations anyway (can't wait for the pink Rhinos with that set, to be honest 😄). Paricuarly as its clear that only the female frames get this treatment. DE is going after the most base side of design in a fashion that is annoyingly unequal. If we can get a big butted female that inverts like she is doing a stripper pole dance we can get a male frame doing it. Give some freaking gender equality DE. Yeah I kind of feel that they've lost a little 'professionalism' by going down this route, the odd joke is fine but it can sometimes go a little too far now. Put a wide Syandana on it if alternative animations aren't possible. Anyway my issue isn't that Wisp makes me sick or is super unprecedented. I don't really know if I want them to go further in this direction. I largely appreciate Warframe for being generally gender expansive, but then they still bring out these designs that are super hetero, male gaze kinds of designs. One minute, I'm absolutely ecstatic, and the next, I'm announcing with a heavy heart that the straights are at it again. I wish that they would make more female Warframes that were just bizarre and freaky looking. Like, c'mon. It's 2019. The Shape of Water won multiple Oscars. No other male warframes exude even a tenth of the sexuality female warframes do. Nidus, Volt, and Rhino are simply design elements and don't at least in my mind call much about male virility to mind. I don't want monster girl frames either, no lamia GF no spider girl GF, none of that. I just want to see less fetish baiting. If someone really thinks Wisp's design wasn't to get people to go "WOW THAT FRAME IS THICC LOL" then hey fine whatever, but it sure felt that way to me. I think it was even more hammered in by the run animation. Though that's just my opinion and maybe I'm some evil puritan fighting against boner culture, whatever.
