To forum mods: Why was my thread closed?

Hello,

I recently opened the thread "Nightwave is challenging, you guys..." where I very cynically listed the several Nightwave "challenges" and subtly implied that they are not, indeed, challenging.

The thread is locked but without due reason. May I ask why? The several comments that followed were utterly innocuous and devoid of aggression. The thread itself had raised a legitimate issue with the weeklies, etc... What makes it any more worthy of a lock-up than the infinitely more abrasive "I hate Nightwave" threads?

An explanation from the moderator who is responsible would be appreciated, as well as future clarity.

Thank you!

if you know which mod locked your thread, why don't you just PM them? there's no point making another thread, this one will probably get locked too.

I know, know. But that's what I'm saying - the thread is locked up without explanation. There is no mod comment so I don't know who is responsible. I totally agree with you that I should not make a thread about it but I don't see any alternative.

I bet it was because "cynically".
And let's be honest, it sounds like meta complaining. Complaining about complains. And this is against the forum's rules.

Chances are this thread will be closed aswell...

While I disagree with considering cynicism spam, trolling, or generally something to be dismissed as a form of criticism, I would have accepted the lock-up (albeit begrudgingly) had the moderator at least pointed this out. Now I have to guess the reason...

That and, so many threads blatantly rag on Nightwave which don't get locked up that it feels unfair that mine did.

Yeah, not the best way to handle stuff. Sadly it is as it is.

"Ranting" about nightwave is just criticizing the game.
Complaining about all the threads that rant about Nightwaves is meta-complain, as I said in my previous post. I would assume that this was one of the things that triggered the mod.

Well, it's fair to say I did both. If you go to the thread you can see that I first criticize Nora's task for being named challenges, and once that's finished I also respond to those who conflate challenge with tedium. Is a meta complaint okay as a by-the-way provided I first input a concrete opinion about the game? I'm glad we're in agreement about moderation getting out of hand.

I checked another thread that definitely deserved a lock and it is locked.

Looks like a mod came online and is cleaning GD weekend mess as fast as they can. If they have limited time... I sorta understand why no explanation is given.

Not that I say that you thread deserved to be closed, maaaybe a relocation to Off-topic or a merge with another Nightweave thread?

Volunteer work as forum moderator must be... thankless and probably gives one a very cynical outlook on humanity. Any news on that professional moderators service DE have been contacting?

Edit: honestly, moderation on this forum is... well. “Quality, free and fast” - I think I seen things work this way only then religion was involved.

Sympathetic as I am toward the volunteers, one should not put themselves in this position if they cannot pull it off professionally and consistently.

when did cyinicism became against forum rules and rules of polite discourse? are we serious here? may as well close the forums then

Don't get surprised OP, seen lot of constructive criticism threads with peaceful tones get trashed just because the mod who checked it seems like didn't like it, no violation of  forum rules and no explanation whatsoever. you're better off to reddit or other forums if you really want to start a constructive discussion, this game moderation is a well known issue which can't be pointed at by users for being against the forum rules, it's DE who should take on the matter

Hmmm. I would say that you do not always know what you are walking into :). But stepping away then you realized what you can not do it? Yes, this is something you can (and probably should) do.

I am no expert, but from what I experienced, volunteers still do need training, organization and supervision. The way things are on forums - does it looks like it is done well (or done at all)?

To be honest, I do not know if moderation can give this feeling of “worth it” - you do not see the results of your work, you do not learn something useful and there is so few of you dealing with all potential troublemakers.

In short: there is that professional moderator company? 🙂

Being cynical is not being respectful or constructive. So yes, it's against the forum rules.

Cynicism =/= lack of respect and or constructiveness.

You can message any mod with the link to your thread and find out who locked it, and then message that mod.

I took a look at the thread, it's at best overwhelming sarcastic but it is a proper discussion to be had, should the conditions be more geared towards actually having difficulty and a point of failure that occurs from the player rather than being a pure test of repetition, participation and patience.

Personally, I wouldn't lock the thread, I don't think it comes across as being particularly more aggressive than most other threads that disagree with a decision. But I wouldn't really demand an explanation in this manner as to why the thread was locked. If you want to bring up the discussion again, just bring it up without the sarcasm and have the discussion then and treat the previous thread as an outlet for venting some frustration to get it out of your system.
