Similar to Waframe’s Harmony ribbon for Blood cancer awareness, Overwatch has created a ribbon icon and a pink Mercy skin for Breast cancer research.

This brief History of Cancer makes it clear as to why people want to gain more awareness

OW Promo which has gained momentum in recent news

I dont get these "awareness" causes. IM beyond positive ,literally every human being in the world knows about cancer, so why the campaign to bring attention to its horrible existence ? Perhaps they do more and I just dont know. Please explain so I can be more educated on this whole "awareness" thing. Do they help people with donations or something ? To they contribute to funding advancement for a cure ? or is it simply to tell people cancer exists ? Or is this some kind of subtle jab at Nidus ?

Perhaps a second viewing of that video clip can help then.

In it the scientist/doctor aks, how can we join a war without knowing the enemy? He is a trained cancer specialist, and is painfully aware of the cause.

Those of us who are merely civilians in the war can glean understanding from their experience and knowledge through these campaigns

Yes.

Inasmuch as there can be a cure for something like cancer, sure.

Let me paraphrase a very good friend of mine, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer, as she stood on a shop-filled street in October: "Balloons and ribbons are a gimmick to sell more products. Cancer is not pink and fluffy. Cancer is scar tissue, chemo therapy, loosing weight til you're barely a skeleton, vomiting, lying in bed all day long because you are to weak to do anything else. If they wanted to spread cancer awareness, that's what they would show: but that doesn't sell brand name sunglasses and gift-wrapped perfumes."

Yeah pretty much. If you know someone who have cancer and want to help them, don't fall for this awareness BS. It's just easy advertisement for the companies and businesses doing it. Making a profit off someone elses disease. Instead, stop by your friends house, help them clean, cook a meal for them, all the things they can't do themselves when they have just gotten home from chemo treatments. Sure it won't cure cancer, but neither will buying a pink ribbon. And your friend will very much appreciate it.

$10M raised is nothing to scoff at.

This battle is fought in different fronts, not just in the labs and hospitals and patient homes but in the public sphere through these efforts

“This partnership will be a literal game-changer for those impacted by breast cancer,” says Stephanie Kauffman, Chief Strategic Alliances Officer at BCRF. ” Blizzard Entertainment has made an incredible commitment to activate change for women’s health by mobilizing the gaming community worldwide to raise critical funds for lifesaving cancer research,” she added.

We're not saying it's, you know, a bad thing. Raising $10M is amazing, even if it's from a game I hate with a passion

We're just asking why you're sharing this.

Perhaps a third viewing of that video clip can help...

On the historical/medical documentary Cancer: the Emperor of Maladies based on the book of that doctor, a socialite/philanthropist teamed up with another great cancer doctor to raise funds.

It was a team effort concentrated on fighting cancer both from a medical and social standpoint. The socialite called money frozen energy and this is what I’m trying to rally here as well.

If I can spend time debating the merits of Mag’s pull ability, I sure can spend my time debating the merits of these campaigns, amirite?

nice that Blizzard still has it's heart, and that it ironically isn't cold, but this doesn't really belong here. maybe off-topic would be better.

Cancer is a terrible killer though, and we're almost at a 1 in 2 (50%) chance of anyone in the world being diagnosed with cancer. best thing to do is be vigilant, don't be afraid to see the docs (as embarrassing as it is , it could save your life), and do what you can to help others who suffer with it.

Would be cool if... like we could get a first viewing...
"Uploader has not made this available in your country"
I live in Australia... it's not a 3rd world country...

Pretty sure most people are aware of cancer by now... Crap like this is just being used as another form of marketing these days.

Perhaps we need Cancer Awareness Awareness month, to let these companies know that yes, we are aware of cancer.

I'm sure people in WF are well aware of breast cancer. Look at all the pink we got.

Was about to say we have pink rhinos, but i guess a general pink army is fine too. Still prefer pink rhinos with mirage/titania/gara noble tho.

A. WF is part of the campaign with their Harmony Ribbon to support Leukemia

B. Leukemia is cancer of white blood cells in the circulating blood

C. Cancer awareness was linked to WF first hence the topic title “OW joins the fray”

But if the science or the social aspect doesn’t scare, I mean convince you, how about the historical aspect?

How many games have a link to support cancer in-game? How many games have rallied to fund research?

By participating with either WF or OW’s drive, players can be part of gaming community history happening now.

What are you Chairman of the board for the pink ribbon foundation?
You sound like an advert answering questions no one asked and listing off random info... It's a little weird...
