April 2020 Riven Disposition Updates & PC Trading PSA

[DE]Connor

Recommended Posts

Greetings Tenno!

Today's Riven disposition changes will be done a little differently - due to unforseen circumstances, we were unable to synchronously release Riven changes across all platforms with Titania Prime Access, like we usually would. Instead, we are trying our best to match the console release of Scarlet Spear, from a PC update perspective.

However, the hotfix we had planned for today was not going to be ready in time to match console release. Scarlet Spear launched on consoles at 11 AM (Eastern time), and PC will be hotfixing at approximately 3:30 PM. Therefore, to prevent savvy Riven traders on PC exploiting market knowledge, we are preventing the trading of Rivens on PC until we can hotfix in the disposition changes.

Attempting a Riven trade will produce the following error - know that you still have the mod, the transaction will simply not go through.

Spoiler

rivenerror.png

We are sorry for the inconvenience, but hope that you understand why this preventative measure is necessary, to protect those who might be caught unaware!

These changes are also special for another reason - it will be the first time we have changed Melee Riven dispositions since the introduction of the system, so expect to see a lot more changes than you usually would.

A few remarks on how we’ve chosen to handle some of the number changes:

  • Now that all weapons are ranked separately, new weapon variants don’t need to start at the same disposition their base version started at. So as a general rule, all new weapons will start at a disposition of 1, UNLESS the base variant is already below 1, in which case it will take the base.
    • For instance, the base Pangolin Sword has a disposition of 1.47, so Pangolin Prime will be starting at 1. However, the Corinth already had a disposition of 0.95, so Corinth Prime will also start at 0.95
  • As a general rule, weapon dispositions within a certain family are still adjusted partially in relation to one another. Otherwise, most base weapons would skyrocket to 1.5, and we’d have a very strange meta on our hands!
  • In the past, we stated that shotguns relying on Rivens to reach 100% status chance (like the Kohm and Detron) would have their dispositions "locked", as a small decrease could cause a major loss in power. Since status chance on shotguns received systemic changes in the Warframe Revised update, the previously stated restrictions on these Rivens no longer apply.
  • Other than that, still following the same rules we always have; numbers are determined using a combination of player usage statistics and an internal power ranking that we maintain, and we will never change any disposition by more than 0.2 (aka 1 pip) at a time.

With all that said, let’s get started!

Riven mods are the embodiment of a time investment. Whether you work a full/part time job to buy Platinum, spend time trading for Platinum, or farm Kuva, you invest time into your Riven Mods in some fashion. We get it, Rivens are a balance fiasco. Most players gravitate towards investing into Riven Mods for weapons that are either new, good, or both. However, disposition as a mechanic fails to improve the health of Rivens, and it is just a crap-shoot from a balance perspective as well as a time investment perspective. People will always use Rivens for inherently good weapons, and weapons such as Rubico Prime or Catchmoon prove this. This mechanic has consistently failed since its inception years ago, and there will never be any long term benefit to these 90 day changes.

Can we please see the removal of disposition and see a weapons balance pass every 90 days instead? Shifting changes to actual weapon stats instead of the mods we invest in would not only benefit players, but create a healthier gear system. Investing in more gear in the game would be more appealing as the actual weapon would become more appealing and interesting to try, not just a single mod that might be nerfed again later.

The separation of disposition between weapon variants is also increasingly horrible as your Riven Mod improves. The perfect example right from this thread is Aksomati and its Prime. The Prime variant of this weapon just received another slight nerf to the disposition compared to the vanilla weapon, yet the Prime itself is hardly an upgrade in the base stats. This closes the gap in performance to an amount that makes it undesirable to even bother with a Prime variant of your favorite weapon. Why do I use Aksomati as an example? Here is why:

Aksomati:

unknown.png

Aksomati Prime (After Patch):

unknown.png

Same Riven, same build. However, look how similar these weapons are in stats. I can't even hit 100% Critical Chance on the Prime when I can on the vanilla variant. It just feels bad to invest into Rivens when this happens and discourages players with good Rivens to touch variant upgrades with slight stat bonuses (which have been many recent variants lately). The Prime barely feels different than the vanilla weapon thanks to this difference in disposition, and this makes the upgraded version of the weapon boring and lackluster.

Hopefully you understand (from an invested Riven user) why disposition is inherently flawed and would be better suited for removal with real weapon balance passes taking place. Please start respecting the investments of players more when it comes to their gear. Riven Mods outright take the cake as the largest investment into an optimal weapon setup, and disposition only hurts this.

I can't keep track on what's a exploit nowadays and what isn't, can you guys create something like a Google doc on what you consider as a exploit?

Also thank you for making base variants better than the primed ones, saves me the money which i would've spent onto prime access!!!

With that dispo nerf u dont get the normal kohm on 100 % status chance with an no negative riven. Do u even know what u are doing ?! Used = nerf ......... all the time........... untill the riven gives 30 % on stats (dead). We play the guns for the extra effects on it not for the dmg..... PLAY THE GAME DE

DONT BUY RIVENS its an time an money TRAP

IF U WANT ALL GUNS SAME LIKE BATTLEFIELD, ASK THEM !

You do realize that even before any status changes that no sc and -slash was best on Kohm Rivens, right? Not only that, but sc isn't relevant now. Best roll is dmg ms fr -slash even moreso now. Yeah these changes imo are incredibly stupid, but Kohm nerf makes complete sense.

I love this game, and recommend it to people all the time. However, I'm pretty saddened by some things.

Yeah ok, im sorry if this sounds rude but it needs to be said.

Rivens screw everything up. I'm sorry, but they do.

So now, for example, plague kripath.

Awesome, you basically killed general usage of the weapon, and now we have to rely on exodia contagion or another weapon.

Another example, orthos and orthos prime. So that disposition change seems like it's gonna end up being the same weapon, or orthos will end up being better than the prime. Um, what?

You know what's a good idea? Giving the weapons actual balance and removing rivens entirely because this is just insanity anymore.

You also screw over a lot of people who trade rivens and make them either lose plat, or get rich from a silly disposition buff. It's very asymmetric. This is not how you balance a video game.

This is honestly quite appalling and I can't believe this is still going on.

Or, if you wanna keep rivens ingame, then stop messing with them. If a weapon is popular, who cares? Honestly, people still use the other weapons ingame, myself being one of them, because I enjoy using most of the weapons.

But the issue why people resort to "meta weapons/builds" is because, that's what we need to do in order to complete high level endgame content.

The game is so sverely unbalanced that this is the result.

Please DE, listen to the community and please go back to your roots of understanding.

Thank you for the amazing game though, it's definitely top tier in my eyes and I continue to recommend it to people!

could you NOT nerf the weapon , paracesis, that is obviously the wepaon used against the sentient? which is the damn event right now? wow. you can't take a more "we go by the data" than that. and these datas concerning the paracesis are literally skewered right now.

wait, so you are preventing the system to actually fulfill what it was created for? aka giving less used weapons stronger dispo?

outstanding move.

could you not try to shape the meta the way you want it? if the base weapons should have a 5/5 disposition, let them have it. it's the WHOLE point of the system, and you actually skewer it because of your bias against having base weapons getting strong dispo. this is completely backward. it's truly a shame that you flat out admit to artificially limit the riven dispo of certain weapons because you don't WANT them to be stronger, even if by the very definition of the system you created, they should be.
