While our team has been reading and listening to feedback on Friday's post regarding Warframes, our Weapons designer has been just as hard at work on some changes coming to many of Warframe's weapons!

This might be the longest list in Dev Workshop history, so we'll give some quick explanations and let you un-spoil CTRL+F your favourite weapons (Melee + Beam currently not included) to see what's coming.


Why?

Well, we are revisiting all weapons and adjusting their stats to fit into some Mastery Rank grouping guidelines based on DPS and Crit/Status split total.

Some general notes:

  • Some weapon crafting costs will be revisited, and PoE resources will be used if it makes sense to better integrate a mix of resources into the game.
  • Not noted here are BEAM weapons - they should be ready soon, but we are revisiting them to be more 'like they used to be' in terms of damage instances over time but with a fixed fire rate. Fire Rate mods and their effects are still being determined.
  • Conclave Weapon damage has not yet been touched - will be done once all changes are set!
  • We calculate DPS based on sustained DPS which also takes Critical and Status values into account so our values may be different than yours!
  • For those of you in the Riven Market, please be aware these stats will not affect Riven dispositions. Player popularity / usage stats will continue to be the metric for that.


So what are these Mastery Rank grouping guidelines?

We sketched out Mastery Rank groupings of 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15 for each weapon type with a minimum DPS and amount split between crit and status for each group. Using existing stats, weapons were sorted into the groups. If their stats were too high for their current MR it was raised along with any other properties to match.
 

Example: Tiberon

Its damage places it in MR 10-12 but its crit and stat split is way too low. MR is increased along with status and critical chance to match its new MR. Increasing status and critical boosts its damage so it's reduced down to fit back into the MR group guidelines its original stats dictated

 

The end result is the high performing/popular weapons stats remain untouched outside of being placed into their intended MR group and the rest of the weapons are brought up to equivalency.

 

Additional Notes

  • Projectile based and low fire rate weapons were given more crit and status allowance when appropriate.
  • Some outliers exist that either don’t meet or exceed their Mastery Rank's allotted DPS and Crit/Status split allowance because of additional properties and/or features.

    Examples:

  • Grakata - exceeds Crit/Status split but is extremely inaccurate
  • Strun Wraith - DPS is lower than its Mastery Rank group but it has forced stagger on hit and high status chance
  • Free weapons like the Dex series have been given Mastery Rank values to match their stats! We know these are grandfathered in inventory regardless of Mastery Rank, it's just for consistency!

EDIT: If you're a player who doesn't meet the new MR requirements for their favourite piece of equipment, don't fret! If you already own the weapon, you will be able to use it regardless of the higher MR requirement. These MR tweaks will only affect Tenno who newly acquire the weapons listed after these changes make it in-game.

Also, removed a duplicate Lex Prime entry. Its new MR is 8, not 14 as incorrectly listed.

 

A few question and suggestions on here;

 

Despite I like to revisit many lackluster weapons, but is it acceptable for making mastery level requirement as the tier of weapons? It seems that only Tenno with high mastery rank are able to access for endgame weapons, and the Tenno that recently brought back from the past are not able to get them, and have to use the weapon that need to be thrown away at some point. Why they are punished by not become the high ranker? Why newbie Tennos are not able to get the good weapon by a gift or some platinums they bought and use it through the game?

Isn't it amazing to use a weapon in your pocket since the dawn of your gameplay and it is still viable on endgame? You can't stick with only one weapon all the times, of course, but having a weapon with your gameplay experience is golden, as I can't sell my first warframe, Volt, despite I am already have Volt Prime and no longer uses him.

The more problem is too high mastery rank cap. As a Mastery Level 22 Tenno that able to reach 23 soon, personally I have no problem to make and use most weapons(and actually I have many of them already). But.... remeber The War Within and opt for have a fight with Vay Hek on Earth are requires only mastery rank 5. So, it is possible that prevents newbie to Sorties are not welcomed until they have enough mastery rank to get the good weapon. I fear that many Tennos are about the mission when they saw some Tennos with mastery rank 5 to 7, not only for their mastery level and the prejudice for the lack of experience, but their incapable for access for usable weapons on sorties and blame them... JUST BECAUSE of their low mastery rank. I, personally, accepts anyone who are not just want to sit idle and at least try to do something to accomplish the mission, but we can't expect most players are has the same standard as me.

Also, although not much Tennos are reach to Sedna with mastery rank 5, but I have seen some Tennos that don't want to throw away what they have and keep their weapons rather than only keeps what they wants and throw away what they don't want as many Tennos already does. And individual Tenno's mastery rank don't represent the Tenno's own prowess, for it does proves that the Tenno have used many equipments but it have nothing to do with their weapons that has enough polarity and mods enough to deal with the most dangerous enemies. Isn't basic capacity and faction standing limit(and pleases our vanity, with self deprecate) encourages us to get the higher mastery rank?

For endgame users the change only affects most varity of choice of weapons, but it is no more than a disaster for the newbies.

In short, I don't think that forces leveling mastery rank is a good way. Higher mastery rank should reward something to us, but punishing low rankers meanwhile is not acceptable, and it is also harmful to the game and newbies. For the health of the community, and the profit of DE, we are always need for newbies. Man, the game is already an enigma for newbies, and I am painful to say 'the game is not newbie friendly' to newbies on local chat, although I think that it is one of the reason why many endgame users are so friendly for newbies. Please don't punish them more just because they are the newcomers. All of us needs newbies, and please make them happy to choose Warframe and become the master of gun and blade and protector of the weak.

 

And for the suggestions. If Mastery Rank is connected to some features of the weapons, then I think that it should determined for their difficulty to use, rather than its own prowess. For example, Sniper Rifles, Bows and Launchers are far difficult to use than automatic rifles. Also semi-automatic groups are also not so easier than automatics. Some weapons with alt fire are not so easy to fully use, and most of them has very difficult mechanism such as Penta, Quanta groups and infamous Buzlok.

 

Isn't it normal that easy-to use are easy to access and only qualified warriors are granted to use the difficult and deadly weapons? As the soldiers on our worlds are first taught for use the assault rifle, then some elite shooters are learn to use semi automatic but long ranged rifle or sniper rifle, and some of them are able to use the grenade launchers or even deadly missile launchers. I think that it would better concept for the mastery rank cap.

This is really nice but i'm worried about the new players. Increasing all those mastery ranks can't be really welcoming for them. New players deserve some love too DE.

For example, i know you need to make money and this is totally fine but i think that i you want players to spend money first you would need them to stay. Just giving them a couple more inventory and warframe slots for the start would help them go deeper and discover the game a bit more. and Then they wouldn't care too much on spending some money on the game. (I guess). I'm sorry for my bad English (from France!).

I love this game! i want people to discover it and to love it as much as i do! so i would like warframe to be more welcoming to new players.

This list is more or less pretty good, I like most of the changes that are happening, I feel some will have no material impact on some weapons though however that can be kind of a good thing for some weapons.

 

Some things that stuck out to me in this list however are:

 

This one is a big one for me because I honestly feel like the wording in the original post is somewhat missleding

Riven Disposition WILL most likely be effected by this change, yes it is based on weapon usage, but I believe this change WILL effect weapon usage rates and therefor make the Riven Dispositions also change. It's not direct, but I believe it is still relevant and important to mention this fact.

 

Edit (Forgot this mistake I saw before): The Prisma Tetra says it has had it's Status Chance increased from 10% to 24%, it's Base Status is actually 15%, not 10%, so just a quick error there.

 

Why are DMG numbers not divided into I/P/S/appropriate elements, I see that some weapons have their DMG ratios listed when changed, but nowhere says that not listing them means they are the same, for weapons that use Hunter Munitions it isn't important, but for others it can be quite important.

 

I believe Fire Rate/RPM and Ammo Sustainability should be taken into consideration, some weapons simply don't have the ammo to back up their firepower (Secura Dual Cestra is a great example of this so I fail to see why it is so high MR wise, this applies for most Machine Pistols and also some rifles). I believe it crossed your mind because most launchers had their Max Ammo reduced, and some weapons had their fire rate tweaked.

 

Furthering this point, some weapons have the Fire Rate numbers listed when changed, but most do not. The Spool Up time on weapons is also not specifically listed.

 

I'm no English Professor but "Increased the speed fire rate ramps up" is fairly poor English, I think something like "The rate at which this weapon reaches its max Fire Rate has been increased/decreased from X shots to X shots", this way it does use more words, but I feel it also conveys the message much better.

 

Ferrox being in the Primary Rifle category while both Javlok and Scourge are in the Launcher category.

 

I believe the new MR for Ferrox is a bit too high, yes it is powerful, but I do not believe it is as powerful as other weapons in the same MR group. Also nothing was done to its ult fire which kind of battles me.

 

Maybe I am just a Buzlok hater but I do not believe it is buffed anywhere near enough to justify having it in such a high MR bracket, the thing is so slow and clunky to use and has no real status/crit so I really think it should be lower MR, maybe even 3MR.

 

I believe Lex Prime should be higher MR as it is actually an incredible Secondary, some would even argue literally the best Secondary in the game, being MR 8 doesn't really convey that, I think it should at least be MR 10.

 

This last point is important to me personally because I do have a rather large investment in it, and that is the Latron Wraith Crit Chance nerf. I have a Riven Mod that increases my Crit Chance by 162.6% which means in it's current state, I have over 100% crit chance, guaranteeing I get Crits (rarely even Orange Crits) which is great by itself even better with Hunter Munitions. That 5% Crit Nerf changes that so I only have 92% Crit Chance, yes it's high, but it's not =/>100% Crit Chance. Funnily enough, Latron Prime with its now 2% higher Crit Chance than Latron Wraith, does have =/>100% Crit Chance, but that weapon doesn't have my 5 Forma in it. To me, the Latron Wraith is the Crit variant of the Latron Weapons, with Latron Prime being the Status variant. So I would like you to reconsider at least this specific change (I imagine other people have their own personal stakes in other weapons that are being changed too but I figured I'd add my personal situation to this).

Lastly I would like to point out that because of Hunter Munitions, Dex Sybaris is actually Superior to Latron Wraith (Even with the riven mod I have in my Latron, Dex Sybaris can kill a fair bit easier which honestly surprised me but there ya go) and so I hope that gives a good indication on what the power level difference is here (Considering they will be the same MR as of this list).

 

All in all, I am generally in favor of these changes, but hopefully my post will help refine the changes somewhat or at least make this topic more clear to people.

 

Little edit at the end here:

For those worried about new players, everything already in your Inventory will remain usable, so that part shouldn't be much of a problem. People should still be able to rank up relatively unhindered by this as MR should still be made so that there are enough weapons in each bracket to progress (if there isn't, then yes DE has a serious problem there). I believe the balance should be okay for new people to progress at a somewhat decent rate with these changes, but I also believe it should still be taken into consideration, Warframe has a habit of alienating people with it's initial; complexity, people don't need hard missions induced by weak weapons on top of that.

Is this a mistake? Supra and Supra Vandal are going to have exactly the same stats apart from mag size. Is this going to be the only thing that differentiates them?

Because 2 seconds instead of 6 means you need, at best, three times the number of headshots to get the same value. 

Drop the duration nerf. Toxocysts are not strong enough to warrant that big of a drawback to a buff it should've had two days after its release.

You are not giving enough credit to how easy it is to land headshots in the fast fire mode imo.

I don't care. The Toxocysts are already largely unused and this is a flat nerf to their potential. It's making them clunkier and more awkward to use (WHY would they use the Knell as a template? The Knell is a failure!) with some pittance of a buff on the other side.

Just keep the duration at 6 seconds and allow it to refresh. That's it, Toxocysts solved.

Supra Vandal still has the Higher Clip Capacity and higher Max Ammo Capacity (Also higher Accuracy, but it's still a Supra), so the difference is minor, really minor, but it does exist.

Beam weapons need a complete mechanic overhaul. that includes how they even interact with fire rate. That's the best option for beam weapons and their future tbh. Otherwise beam weapons will always keep they internal flaws.

(fyi changing status to normal will not fix a thing as the actual damage tick rate is static so status will still be way worse then on other weapon types)

Why?

Well, we are revisiting all weapons and adjusting their stats to fit into some Mastery Rank grouping guidelines based on DPS and Crit/Status split total.

Some general notes:

  • Some weapon crafting costs will be revisited, and PoE resources will be used if it makes sense to better integrate a mix of resources into the game.
  • Not noted here are BEAM weapons - they should be ready soon, but we are revisiting them to be more 'like they used to be' in terms of damage instances over time but with a fixed fire rate. Fire Rate mods and their effects are still being determined.
  • Conclave Weapon damage has not yet been touched - will be done once all changes are set!
  • We calculate DPS based on sustained DPS which also takes Critical and Status values into account so our values may be different than yours!
  • For those of you in the Riven Market, please be aware these stats will not affect Riven dispositions. Player popularity / usage stats will continue to be the metric for that.


So what are these Mastery Rank grouping guidelines?

We sketched out Mastery Rank groupings of 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15 for each weapon type with a minimum DPS and amount split between crit and status for each group. Using existing stats, weapons were sorted into the groups. If their stats were too high for their current MR it was raised along with any other properties to match.
 

Example: Tiberon

Its damage places it in MR 10-12 but its crit and stat split is way too low. MR is increased along with status and critical chance to match its new MR. Increasing status and critical boosts its damage so it's reduced down to fit back into the MR group guidelines its original stats dictated

 

The end result is the high performing/popular weapons stats remain untouched outside of being placed into their intended MR group and the rest of the weapons are brought up to equivalency.

 

Additional Notes

  • Projectile based and low fire rate weapons were given more crit and status allowance when appropriate.
  • Some outliers exist that either don’t meet or exceed their Mastery Rank's allotted DPS and Crit/Status split allowance because of additional properties and/or features.

    Examples:

  • Grakata - exceeds Crit/Status split but is extremely inaccurate
  • Strun Wraith - DPS is lower than its Mastery Rank group but it has forced stagger on hit and high status chance
  • Free weapons like the Dex series have been given Mastery Rank values to match their stats! We know these are grandfathered in inventory regardless of Mastery Rank, it's just for consistency!

EDIT: If you're a player who doesn't meet the new MR requirements for their favourite piece of equipment, don't fret! If you already own the weapon, you will be able to use it regardless of the higher MR requirement. These MR tweaks will only affect Tenno who newly acquire the weapons listed after these changes make it in-game.

Also, removed a duplicate Lex Prime entry. Its new MR is 8, not 14 as incorrectly listed.

I'm really loving some of these changes and I was thinking if swords will not get a ''Change'' too!
Boltor Prime will be a hybrid machine, the problem is that I will have to change my configuration in some way and reuse the Forms that I put. (My favorite weapon) =D
Arca Plasmor will now have more bullets than 6-10 perfect.
Aksomati will be more deadly, but needs more accuracy, it's too low for the MR she'll receive.
Telos Akbolto, I do not play with her anymore, but I really liked the status will increase, maybe I went back to playing with her again.
Vectis Prime? More critical? Not a problem, with the nerf that Chroma will receive, maybe the Vectis can help to defeat Eidolon more quickly. (Maybe).

Such a crazy list can't wait for this! Please just add a little cherry on top and lower the charge rate of the Opticor a bit more :)  

The boltor's are crazy and super excited its coming back one of the best looking weapons! On paper, which one looks better now Boltor Prime or Telos Boltor? Bows are going to be much quicker and feel super smooth. The Torid is going to be even more of a beast. I always thought the rate of fire, projectile speed, and reload time made it a little weird to use. I would of like the strun wraith reload for the whole thing to take 3.5 sec instead of 5 but it's still going to be crazy.

Beam weapons need a complete mechanic overhaul. that includes how they even interact with fire rate. That's the best option for beam weapons and their future tbh. Otherwise beam weapons will always keep they internal flaws.

(fyi changing status to normal will not fix a thing as the actual damage tick rate is static so status will still be way worse then on other weapon types)

exactly,which is why i said in a topic a while back that they should also double the tick rate not just change the type of status

Personally I believe I'll prefer the Telos Boltor, 30% crit is really nice, especially with Hunter Munitions. Also it has the added benefit of a rather nice PROC. I too am a big fan of the Bow Charge Speed Buff, the big reason I nvr rly use Bows is because of that, so maybe I'll actually enjoy using one that isn't Rakta Cernos. I think Strun Wraith is in a great place now, the upside to the slow reload is that it loads like a Pump Action shotgun, so you can just fire and reload 1 bullet if needed to clear that extra enemy, great for serial reloaders :)

Weapons that I've loved, but wished were better... buffed! The Akjagara, my ridiculous creations that sacrificed multiple better weapons to create... Suddenly this no-delay-burst-fire mechanic comes in to save my Status! Having innate multi-shot was a great idea, but it immediately reduced any Status chance per bullet the weapon had before I even started...

And the Stradavar, I can only hope this will make my unwarranted enjoyment of the weapon warrented ^^

My Rubico isn't in the same category, but it's not as popular as the Vectis, which makes me so happy that the revolver sniper is getting a bit of love (again... after the recent buffs to it for the Plains...)
