Edit: oh nvm, the terminology the game uses is like that too :P.

While our team has been reading and listening to feedback on Friday's post regarding Warframes, our Weapons designer has been just as hard at work on some changes coming to many of Warframe's weapons!

This might be the longest list in Dev Workshop history, so we'll give some quick explanations and let you un-spoil CTRL+F your favourite weapons (Melee + Beam currently not included) to see what's coming.


Why?

Well, we are revisiting all weapons and adjusting their stats to fit into some Mastery Rank grouping guidelines based on DPS and Crit/Status split total.

Some general notes:

  • Some weapon crafting costs will be revisited, and PoE resources will be used if it makes sense to better integrate a mix of resources into the game.
  • Not noted here are BEAM weapons - they should be ready soon, but we are revisiting them to be more 'like they used to be' in terms of damage instances over time but with a fixed fire rate. Fire Rate mods and their effects are still being determined.
  • Conclave Weapon damage has not yet been touched - will be done once all changes are set!
  • We calculate DPS based on sustained DPS which also takes Critical and Status values into account so our values may be different than yours!
  • For those of you in the Riven Market, please be aware these stats will not affect Riven dispositions. Player popularity / usage stats will continue to be the metric for that.


So what are these Mastery Rank grouping guidelines?

We sketched out Mastery Rank groupings of 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15 for each weapon type with a minimum DPS and amount split between crit and status for each group. Using existing stats, weapons were sorted into the groups. If their stats were too high for their current MR it was raised along with any other properties to match.
 

Example: Tiberon

Its damage places it in MR 10-12 but its crit and stat split is way too low. MR is increased along with status and critical chance to match its new MR. Increasing status and critical boosts its damage so it's reduced down to fit back into the MR group guidelines its original stats dictated

 

The end result is the high performing/popular weapons stats remain untouched outside of being placed into their intended MR group and the rest of the weapons are brought up to equivalency.

 

Additional Notes

  • Projectile based and low fire rate weapons were given more crit and status allowance when appropriate.
  • Some outliers exist that either don’t meet or exceed their Mastery Rank's allotted DPS and Crit/Status split allowance because of additional properties and/or features.

    Examples:

  • Grakata - exceeds Crit/Status split but is extremely inaccurate
  • Strun Wraith - DPS is lower than its Mastery Rank group but it has forced stagger on hit and high status chance
  • Free weapons like the Dex series have been given Mastery Rank values to match their stats! We know these are grandfathered in inventory regardless of Mastery Rank, it's just for consistency!

EDIT: If you're a player who doesn't meet the new MR requirements for their favourite piece of equipment, don't fret! If you already own the weapon, you will be able to use it regardless of the higher MR requirement. These MR tweaks will only affect Tenno who newly acquire the weapons listed after these changes make it in-game.

Also, removed a duplicate Lex Prime entry. Its new MR is 8, not 14 as incorrectly listed.

They are actually unable to rerelease that weapon without violating the founder's contract. Same for Skana Prime though it hasn't received the buffs it would need to not suck (except in conclave I've heard it's good there). That said it's also outpaced by plenty of other single pistols including the two you just mentioned. Also Sicarus and Euphona don't need buffs. They basically define the meta right now with how powerful they are.

@[DE]Rebecca I strongly object to the mastery rank changes to Braton Prime and Burston Prime.
The way they relied mostly on common Meso&Lith drops meant that they served as introduction weapons to the Prime content. They were easy to get, had low mastery rating and were reasonably powerful.

Now their mastery rating is prohibetively high.
Who on earth is Mastery Rank 8 before they hit the Prime market?

P.S: "DPS" on the Burston Prime is illusory unless you use the scrollwheel abuse (since a reasonable person can only click so many times per second). Bad design that you kind of fixed with the Quartakk.

It's getting a pretty huge buff. You're more likely to proc the element(s) you've built for it, crit has gone up to 30% base, and it's nearly charge rate is dramatically faster than it currently is on live. Losing 80 base damage is peanuts in comparison to those buffs.

Giving the Despair a niche (something like innate punchthrough and higher flight speed with pinpoint accuracy instead of the 2 and 3 point animation based flight paths other throwing secondaries have) might be better. Either way YAY!

Was excited to see a Launchers section.

Sadly, ended up disappointed with Ogris. What it needed the most was damage buff! Either give it some raw damage or crits.... A slight charge speed buff is nice and all, but when you have limited ammo and low damage, there's no point in firing more.

Loved the buffs! For real! But DE has to be careful with some of those MR changes so u guys aren't "creating a rout" through lvling MR. There's a ton of weap that players could craft and now they'll have to go almost exactly by this list order to acquire them

When are these changes going live?

When can we normal players expect to finally be able to test a decent version of the lato (vandal since prime is locked forever behind a dumb promise) instead of watching it be buffed and still unable to use it?

Damage is not the only balance factor in pvp and many weapons feature mechanical changes such as charge speed, reload speed, accuracy, or projectile speed being increased; so even if damage remains untouched, and since pvp devs can't change the basic mechanics behind a weapon, these changes still open room for conclave balance to be destroyed, which is concerning since there has been a lot of feedback in the conclave subforum and many changes either don't address player concerns and there's no dev replying to at least explain the reasoning behind their decisions (fwiw, even the conclave roadmap by @[DE]joebuck has been deleted from feedback long ago, leaving players who enjoy pvp in the darkness with nothing but concerns about the future of this mode)

First impressions:
Grinlok: 50% damage boost, 50% larger magazine, higher crit multiplier, faster reload.  Awesome!

Gorgon Wraith vs Prisma Gorgon: Not enough differentiation between the two.  Gorgon Wraith should be the status gun, and Prisma Gorgon should be the crit gun.  They should have an equal mastery rank as well, in my opinion.

Braton Prime, Karak Wraith, Dera Vandal: thumbs up. 

Latron Wraith vs Latron Prime: Latron Wraith now has a worse crit chance than Latron Prime?  What gives?

Telos Boltor: big thumbs up.

Supra & Supra Vandal: Why is this now a crit weapon?  5% crit chance or even 7.5% would be more in line.  Leave the base damage as is, and keep new the status chance of 22%.  Also, Supra Vandal really should have better stats than Supra.

Torid, Ogris: yay for these older weapons!

Twin Gremlins: crit multiplier going to remain at 1.5x? :sad:

Azima: a needed buff.  Thank you.

Kulstar: cluster bomb launcher getting some love, nice to see!

Aksomati: pistols were already great, this makes them better!  How about a an increased ammo reserve, though?

Secura Dual Cestra: much needed, but it could use a reload speed increase too.

Dex Furis: much needed, thanks!  Less recoil and higher accuracy would be much appreciated.

Snipetron, Snipetron Vandal: please improve their crit multipliers.

I do find myself curious about some of the changes here - in particular for things like the Supra/Vandal who appear to be getting the same stats barring magazine capacity, yet the vandal version has a higher MR rating necessary?

It doesn't really affect me at all, but yeah.

Also, can we get the Cernos Prime's multi-arrow attack as an alt-fire?

All in all, I'm curious to see how these changes progress and any alterations that will be made.

The multishoot spread will kill this weapon, Castanas/Sancti Castanas already have multishoot spread and turned into a bad weapon because you are wasting damage with the spread, this kind of weapons already struggle a lot on killing things, i jumped from Sancti Castanas to Talons because of this, with the ammo capacity and multishoot spread will kill this category of weapons which are so much fun.

Before Changes:

  • You simply stick the grenade to the body of the enemy or to a solid object near of him/her for max damage.
  • Less chances to kill yourself.
  • 100% precision of your shoots.

After Changes:

  • You will need to stick the grenade to the feets of the enemy or the nearest solid object to the enemy for max damage.
  • You will have more chances to kill yourself because the spread.
  • Less precision.
  • The enemy will likely be alerted by the extra projectiles that doesn't stick to him/her if you are going to do a mission in stealth.
  • You will need Ammo conversion mod 100% of the time or Carrier.

We don't need that obligatory spread, we already have mods that can increase the amount of enemies that this weapon can hit like Fulmination or Magnum Force, the point is that those are optional. With the obligatory spread, the only way to counter it is by removing Multishoot which will turn the weapon in useless.

Weapons are for killing. If i want CC i use an ability of the warframe.

I'm very very skittish about the Mastery Rank Requisite tweaks the Digi-Folk have done here. A large portion of them seem. . . horrendously excessive?

 

Don't get me wrong, alotta these tweaks are absolutely BRILLIANT aftermarket Q.O.L. pieces that are sure to bring smiles to many of us Mid and Old Guardsmen (I see the Tiberonites are already beginning to burn their holy offerings to the Steve idols), but, some of these fellows are getting locked away beyond our new-blood's reach for no apparent reasons. 

 

An example? The Lex Primes. Why are they double digited into only the veteran's pockets?

Sure, by all means, place those ol Bolter Sets and Tigris sets a little further up the shelf to prevent premature oberkill, but, why put gateway weapons of "basic" categories beyond new blood and low guard reach?
