Dargyn pilots before they hit the ground, riven?

Rochsu

Question

So how do u do this riven. Been flying around the plains day time and while they do spawn, I've only managed to get 1/4 so far and I do not really have an idea why. Tried to get behind them to shoot the pilot but doesn't seem to count.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

iirc Koro on kuva fortress used to always have 4 Dargyn Pilots spawn as you were waiting for the gate to melt. You could get those guys and abort to unlock riven. I have not done this method in quite some time so I'm not sure if they still spawn there.

a fun way i dont see on here...or i just missed it:

titania p is one of my most used frames...and i have subsumed pull (with greedy augment) on her so i just scoop up everything and stay in razorwing 100% of the time.

well...aside from using spellbind/lantern (they both work for pilots still on the ground), you can go in razorwing...fly near a dargyn in the air...then just yoink the pilot out with pull and shoot them with dex pixia as they fall.

its both fun to do and amusing to watch.

handy for when they just wont spawn on the ground.

yeah, the change they made to make it easier to keep Dargyns to ride them didn't help, and nobody actually wants to ride one anyways so it didn't really present a pro to speak of.

anyways, if you shoot towards the bottom half of the Dargyn it'll hit the Dargyn first. and stop spamming AoE, if that isn't... obvious.
furthermore you can lift the Pilot off the Ground after they land on it and that still counts. all it's checking is that the Pilot is not currently touching the Ground.

Just bumping this because this has been the single most frustrating riven "challenge" in the entire game for many players, this is the problem with DE's method, they release something and expect you to be able to do it within the very vague confides of a single sentence.  mean while you do everything that you can do accomplish the goal, nidus, follow them, just flat out shooting the back of the pilot which should count, use the ignis and none of it is a consistent completion.  I have done the same method, Ignis follow them, get in front of them so that my flame kills the craft first (because that makes sense to DE apparently) then nothing they die at the exact same time.  I even tried to use a beam weapon thinking "well it should kill one right after the other right? logic I guess escapes DE's developers apparently.  I just don't get how you can consistently release content and not try it yourselves to make sure that it's possible for the vast majority of players and not the ones that can figure out work arounds for your broken mechanics.  Originally I tried Mesa, nope, kills the pilot (somehow) first every single time without fail, I tried the Titania method, didn't count each and every time, wasted an hour trying to make it work but all that I did was waste my time.
Then having to do it in "a single day" on PoE because why not add an additional complication to it right?  it's not like those thing spawn maybe .0001% of the time when you need them to even while starting a bounty.

I've had to do this twice.

First time weapons like ignis wraith will minimize the level of skill needed.  Just shoot the bottom of the dargyn and the pilot will fall into the beam.

Second time it was a shotgun riven so I couldn't use the ignis.

Mesa without punch through on her regulators was all but guaranteed. See Dargyn pop 4, spam trigger.

I use nidus' larva and pluck em right out of the dargyn. Kill em while they are in the ball and theyve never touched the ground. This works with pilots that haven't even gotten to their dargyns yet too. Oh Im using nidus not the helmith subsumed ability. Have yet to try it with the sub ability.

Just to add as one of the ways to do this Riven, i always use Itzal's Cosmic Crush (3rd Skill), it works well. Destroy the Dargyn, find the pilot and then just use Cosmic Crush on him while floating a little bit higher than ground level and that should do the trick.

FYI, I've done this from a warframe on the ground using a sobek with acid shells. not sure if that works anymore.

I didn't think those ones dropped pilots.  As far as looking for them on the plains, you do get a lot in drone escort bounties, but that's only particularly useful for  farming pigments.  I personally just try to cover as much ground as I can in AW, listen for the spawn sound and look for the spawn fireball.  I feel like the tend to spawn in the same areas though I haven't mapped anything out.

If you go out of Cetus and head right, buzz the cable base and one will spawn slightly back towards the river. Then head over to Hek Stiletto and another will spawn. Then head back to the cable base, rinse and repeat. Sometimes you'll get a cruise ship instead, just head to the other location to reset the spawns.

I think I do this one the most "as intended" way.  I use archwing to stay close, I use a powerful shotgun (kuva brakk pistol), shoot the dagryn in the, ahem, dangly bits, then hit the pilot.  High damage, good spread, and getting plenty close make each shot easy and 2 shots total.  I have had problems with killing the ship and pilot both in 1 shot, which doesn't count, so make sure it takes 2 shots.

I've had mixed effectiveness using mesa to just hit pilots who are still standing on the ground, though the last couple times I tried it didn't seem to work so I bet it got patched.  I've also used a mid-range weapon to pop the dagryn and then mesa to pop the pilot.  But at this point I'm feeling like gimmicks are a waste of time when it's so easy to just grab a shotgun and get close.

The 'official' way this was meant to be done, is you have to shoot the dargyn without hitting the pilot, causing the pilot to be ejected.

Then before that pilot hits the ground, kill them midair.

Killing the pilot Before he is ejected from the dargyn doesn't count, he has to be alive, and separated from it.

People have since then found a loophole in the logic to cheeze this.

such as, when the pilot is already on the ground; knocking them back into the air using a melee lift, rhino stomp, etc warframe abiliites, and then killing them.
